These quick and easy polymer clay earrings use small amounts of clay but give a great marbled look in a geometric design. I take you step by step through the whole process, so sit back, relax, and then have some fun and make your own.
The music from the video is English Country Garden by Aaron Kenny and Waterfall by Aakash Gandhi both available from the KZfaq Free Audio Library.
If you like my work, then please do have a look at my website, www.fionaabel-smith.co.uk/ and follow me on Facebook / fiona.abelsmith and Instagram. / fionaabelsmith.artist
I also have a number of Polymer Clay PDF Tutorials to buy in my Etsy shop, PolyOriginals - www.etsy.com/uk/shop/PolyOrig... and as a video tutorial here - polyoriginals.thinkific.com/co...
Here is the link to my conditioning Polymer Clay video - • Conditioning Polymer C...
Polymer Clay is oven baked, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the brand of clay you are using.
I used FIMO Soft Polymer Clay, but all well-known brands of polymer clay will work well for this project.
I used setting 4 on my Pasta Machine dedicated to Polymer Clay use. If you do not have a pasta machine, you can create sheets of clay by rolling the clay between two even stacks of playing cards to get an even thickness in your sheet of clay. Settings 9 and 8 on my machine are 1 playing card thickness (0.15 and 0.25mm), setting 7 and 6 are 2 cards thick (0.33 and 0.5mm), setting 5 is 3 cards (0.75mm), setting 4, 4 cards (1mm), setting 3 is 5 cards (1.5mm), setting 2 is 6 cards (2mm), setting 1 is 7 cards (2.25mm) and setting 0 is 8 cards (2.5mm) thickness.
I created my own simple paper template for the earring shape. Follow the shape I used or create your own. Add straight lines through your shape to dissect the design into several areas.
I have listed below everything I mentioned and alternatives where applicable. But just use what you have to hand.
A flexible Polymer Clay Blade /Craft Knife
Small roller
Cocktail Stick/Small Ball Tool
Long straight needle
Scissors to cut your paper template
The small round cutter I use to create a hole at the top of the earrings can either be bought in a set specifically used for polymer clay from many shops on Etsy, (I originally got mine from MyMandarinDucky on Etsy - www.etsy.com/uk/listing/21137... ) or I have also bought them direct off eBay, where you can search under ‘Cord Pin End Crimp Terminal Wire Copper Connectors’, to find similar cutters, but you will get a huge amount all the same sizes. You can use your needle/cocktail stick to create a hole instead.
The Lucy Clay Czextruder can be found here www.laraluclay.com/product-pa... or you can roll the clay by hand.
To finish the earrings, I used round and oval jump rings and Fish Hook earring findings. All are available from bead/craft shops or online.
A small sheet of Baking Parchment/wax paper/tracing paper/parchment paper or something similar
Wet/dry sandpaper (if you want to sand) - I used 240/600/1000/1500 grit.
Unstitched polishing mop - if you want to polish any sanded clay pieces. These can be added to hand held machines like a Dremmel, or onto a bench grinder. You can of course polish by hand with a soft polishing cloth - a piece of clean denim like material also works well to give a soft sheen.
I baked on a small tile and sat the earrings on 2 small pieces of card stock.
Aluminium foil to cover the tile/clay while it bakes.
Hopefully that gives you everything you need to know to make some of your own. Have fun.
Thank you so much for watching.

I don’t think it can be stated enough, how good it is of you to provide this wonderful instruction for FREE. So many creators are moving to memberships, and patreon, and have basically turned their free content into nothing but advertisements for their paid stuff. I don’t blame the creators….I get it, but I don’t have any money. I am budgeted down to my last cent, (I have arthritis in my hips and back so limited mobility and movement and chronic pain so can’t work)so I can’t pay, however much I might want to. I love watching content that has something to teach tho. So, thank you Fiona, your work is very much appreciated.

The thing is Fiona is one of the ever decreasing few to still provide GOOD projects without having to pay. Like others that do this for a living, there is paid content and products but she doesn’t forget those who can only do this craft on a modest budget. Like these earrings which are a perfect example. I remember watching the mushroom fairy house tutorial where she explains she gave that free because the techniques were out there. Yet it is a complex project that took a lot of her time. This is why my youngest grandson and I are such fans. Something for everyone which is a difficult balance when it’s your job.

As someone new to the jewelry world and having a blast, I'm so glad your channel showed up as a recommendation. I really appreciate that you teach how to make jewelry without a lot of expensive equipment for those that don't have them. I have a pasta roller but it's awesome to see that we can all still create beautiful art without all of the fancy stuff. Thank you for a wonderful video!
