At 5:39 PM on Sunday, May 16, 2021, the Sacramento Fire Department responded to reports of a grass fire near Mile Marker 3 1/2 along the American River Bike Trail. While still en route, Battalion 3 reported seeing a large column of smoke coming from the area of the incident. Upon arrival, a second alarm was requested, as well as an additional order of 3 wildland engines. Due to high winds, the fire spread quickly, but forward progress was quickly stopped with the help of a slough at the head of the fire. The fire was mapped at approximately 5 1/2 acres and no injuries were reported.
