I remember seeing him in person in Providence. He was a superb fiddler who never lost his old-time roots. Very funny man as well.

Pat I was wondering were there other fiddle players in your dad family ... I remember another Cline that played for Jimmy Martin back in the 80`s I believe .... I always LOVED hearing and seeing Curly Ray perform ...

This fiddle of Ralph Stanley must be the best there ever was. He dances when he plays.

I met Ralph Stanley and his band in 1980 at the Waterloo Village bluegrass festival in North Jersey .... what a great bunch of guys .... after their stage show they came out into the crowd to jam with the folks ... I couldn''t believe it ... Ralph Stanley , Curly Ray , and Mac Weissman came over to our picnic table and jammed with us ! Curly Ray was a'jumpin and hopping while playing that fiddle , big smile and clearly enjoying playing with the crowd .... thats just how he was ,even when not onstage ... they clearly understood what bluegrass was about , including the tradition of jamming with folks.

So great to hear and see Curly Ray in his key role with Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys ! I do hope the growing generation pick up on Bluegrass and add their own ways to an American music tradition. I host a small jam and give free instruction of banjo and acoustic guitar. It's called grassroots efforts, pun punted I know...

I knew someone who learned banjo at 60, was doing shows at 65 Y/O. That's right, it only took him 5 years to learn it and learn tons of bluegrass songs. It's amazing what people do when they put they're mind to something. I would assume that would be almost impossible because the memory goes I would assume...don't know, haven't reached that golden age yet

I truly enjoyed this program & David Holt's preservation and edification of American musical culture. When the pharisees from Madison Ave & Hollyweird got control of Nashville they discarded, if not perverted such programs. GOD bless Curly Ray Cline. He could make a fiddle talk to you.

Even though #7 on the song list reads "unknown" everyone knows it's Leather Britches", even without David Holt introducing it as such. Tears of joy when ever I hear Ralph and the Clinch Mountain Boys.

What I liked about Ralphs band. They appeared on stage in suits and ties. Charley Sizemore on lead vocals. No smutty jokes a show you could take your saintly mother to.Charley followed Keith W (I think)
