The guy behind Prey and Dishonored, arguable the only worthwhile games to come out of Arkane in years, left to make his own studio and develop Weird West. Mikami was checked out since Evil within 2, after Hi-fi rush he was gone to make another studio. If you enjoyed Hi-fi Rush I'd suggest keeping an eye on John Johanas, since it was his passion project. Always follow the creative minds behind the games you enjoy, the companies are just the shells they reside in.

Studios have to sell games/generate profit to remain open in the 2020s, its that simple. No one closed sold enough games for them to still be a thing. Gaming is way more expensive to run this gen than just even last gen a few years ago. Idk why this is so hard for everyone to grasp. Gamepass is a huge issue.

The founder of tango left shortly after hifi rush was released and he took his team to start up a new studio. Tango gameworks was a former shell of itself and Xbox just decided to take them out back. People are making it seem like Xbox shut down a studio that was in its prime.

I too think Satya is calling the shots and in many ways he probably always has to some extent, he's the CEO, still Phil is the head of Xbox and people have every right to be upset with him. I can only imagine the man's doing well financially. I'd just walk away, move to some island or a ranch up in Washington state somewhere. Build a beefy rig and enjoy gaming, family and outdoors. I'm confused about the issue from gamers Prey didn't sell in the past and it seems like since they are a $3 trillion company people want Microsoft to throw blank checks at studios that really isn't reality. Microsoft has a foot in the door in Japan with Sega and soon square. I'm waiting til June way too much Drama.

Things are starting to come out apparently when shinji Mikami left he actually took a lot of his staff with him to form a new studio in Japan so it was understandable that Xbox shut down tango gameworks as they didn't have enough relevant staff

It was expected tbh, after Shinji Mikami left Tango, that studio was pretty directionless. I didn't care much for Hi-Fi Rush, but I am sad for The Evil Within now being dead in the water.

@1:54 just a correction from what we learned about the Redfall post launch convos was that a lot of the major talent that shipped Prey left during Redfall's dev due to not wanting to work on a multiplayer game. Just saying the Redfall team that remained was not the same.

I think you're right about Satya but I understand that most the creative talent left Tango when Shinji left or they came with him. So Tango wasn't the Tango anymore that made all those games you loved. They finished HiFi Rush and than left the company so that was their final hit and maybe Tango's as well. So they shut them down. Arkane a similar story. Not the Arkane anymore it was in their heydays. That would make a lot more sense to me than to just shut it down randomly or because of a bottom line.

Alexx, I have really come to expect more from your analysis of these situations. First off, they didn't buy these studios for Game Pass or a presence in Japan. They bought the whole publisher, which included those studios. Second, these studios may have made some acclaimed and award winning games, but awards and critical recognition don't always sell games. Please look at the game sales from the two devs that were shut down. None of them have any recent blockbuster sales. Finally, you ask what about making games for Game Pass without these studios. They still have 35+ other studios. If they are on a 6 year development cycle that would equate to 6 first-party games releasing every year. Ain't that enough?

Shareholders and investors is what's ruining gaming. Gaming has become bigger than Hollywood and now we're seeing what happens when games and studios don't make these Shareholders and investors money.

NO! Alex, Arkane Austin is a subsidiary of Arkane Studio's in France. They absorbed the subsidiary (Austin) into ZeniMax ESO team. Tango.... Tango my boi. I never expected you to take a console player approach to this one. MS has no connection in Japan. Tango was a Zenimax studio and MS bought Zenimax. But that was the only connection Zenimax had to Japan. Then the Founder / CEO of Tango Gameworks quit. Shinji Mikami, the master mind of the studio is gone, he killed the studio. Can you go on Amazon Japan and buy another Shinji? But Round house games is also joining Zenimax. Now you can come at me like a console player and say, "What about those that fall through the cracks". Companies like CDPR North America offered them a job. I am not defending MS, IDC. Zenimax was bloated before it was bought and expanded to the point that management couldn't manage it. Devs left BGS because the team is to big and communication is bad. MS is not responsible for Tango. MS is responsible for Starfield launching 9 months ago and still does not have a dlc. But BGS thinks it can work on multiple IP and a TV show at the same time when they can't make a game correctly. MS is guilty of not firing Todd Howard.

Insanity. Tango was really heating up. They actually put a game out that was well reviewed, well liked by a core audience and outside audience, and the game ran extremely well on release. Meanwhile they shut them down to lend a helping hand to studios that have not received the praise they have. They should have invested more into Tango after Hi-Fi Rush but instead they destroyed the studio. It's actually insanity because they did that just to double down on studios that have failed them.

Already been retro collecting for a long time. Just got the MotorStorm Trilogy for PS3 didn’t even know there was a Third Game. Thought it was just the Sequel and the Vita Spin-Off… Yeah I expect the Crash because these people don’t know what we want… I unplugged my Xbox and not turned it on since… I brought out my 360 instead!

This is what consolidation really looks like, and all the Xbox fans were rejoicing when MS started down this acquisition path with Bethesda. They didn't do it to make great games, they did it to destroy their competition. It's the oldest trick in the book. Buy a competitor, destroy it and then you have captured the market. The other devs were moved to other studios, why is it that when a studio closes people start talking good about them and their products but when they were around they were overlooked? They moved the majority of those teams to studios with more potential and more ambitious projects, which is what we want right. Just because you got a roof over your head does mean youre obligated to house the homeless.
