Necessity is the mother of invention. You play around with things and experiment. Like most other things, trial and error and then think of adding other things based on a specific need.

Ohmyfcking god....this just blew my mind but I've never managed to wrap my mind around 3d vfx despite learning about modelling and games (albeit realllyyyy babbyy and neww to everything). Tf ofc, 2d on 3d plane.
