I have been getting a lot of requests to repost some of my refinishing videos from the early days of my channel. I apologize for the low-res. I had a crappy camera.
A place for people with common interests to come together and discuss their mutual hobbies, tactics, toys, and opinions. All are welcome. Collectors, preppers, serious sportsman, and anyone else that just wants to share.

A few years back I refinished a Smith & Wesson Model 645 Second Generation .45acp semi-auto pistol. I used a Sand Blaster Machine at work. it was one of those stand-up cabinet type where you look through the little window and you puit your hands thru the front holes. You load the piece to be worked on thru the side door of the machine. The Machine happened to be set up with Walnut Shell Media - so that is what I used to Blast the entire gun with. The gun turned out great, although the Walnut shells produced a slightly brownish tint to the gun - but it looked great. I wish I still had that sand-blaster to do other guns, as I know longer work at that company.

Thanks for the video repost. I looked at a used, scratched Colt Defender 90 Series today that was a prime candidate for refinishing. It's about $250-300 cheaper than a new one. I did view your other video on the Colt Officer's model refinished and thought it looked great.

I recently purchased a S&W Model 66 Combat magnum. It's a bead blasted stainless steel flat finish over the entire revolver. Are you aware of any solvents that would damage the finish? I normally use Slip 2000 Carbon Killer on my 686 stainless steel with no issues but I am unsure about the bead blasted finish on the model 66. Thanks for your help.

Nice! My problem is that I'd prefer my shiny guns less shiny. Any tips on whole gun bead blasting? Take it completely down? Or take it apart afterward to remove grit?
@MountainStorm
@MountainStorm 10 жыл бұрын
You should try angular glass. Cuts faster and better than beads. Bead blasting is really for compressing and removing some porosity on the surface of alloys. Angular glass leaves a nice matte on steel.

I hot a stainless springfield loaded with matte rounds and polished flats. It's used and has a few scuffs on the matte finish. I was thinking of blasting the entire thing with glass so it would have a plain satin finish. Is this this a good idea?

How is the stainless steel (on the top of the gun) so smooth and matte looking? I don't see any viable dimples. When ever I try and do it, the metal comes out looking rough and I'm able to see the dimples.

Question for people that know their stuff: I had my eye on a Taurus Model 66 revolver in Black (blued). However, the 2nd iteration black comes 'matte black oxide'. If I bought one could I polish it up (as you would a matte stainless gun) to give it a similar shine, or would I have to go have it blued by a shop? www.taurususa.com/firearms/revolvers/66/66-revolvers-357-mag-38-special-p-7-round-3/

Does anyone know what grit and type of bead a Remington 700 stainless matte finish is? Also the PSI on the air hose used? Had to buff out a scratch on the gun and ended up polishing the spot. Trying to see if I can blast the spot to match the rest of the finish. What I've gathered it may be medium beads of some kind. If it doesn't seem blended after blasting can I sand it with high grit wet sandpaper to blend? Thanks again
