@@straightpipeacres6365 I could see why one would think that but the Rabas in the tigers are overbuilt. I’ve seen wider (overall) rubber hanging off these on the same farm.

They are not. The farmer has told me the factory installed RABA axles handle the set up well.

Steiger tractors I’m pretty sure have outboard planetary axles which will take a lot of pressure off axle bearings.

The Tiger size Steigers are built heavy. The RABA axles can handle it as well as the metric triples.

Usually run very low air pressure with the most in the inside tire in those setups.

It’s a cool and effective set up.

This is a red one the customer ordered new but when it arrived in red he refused to take delivery unless it was painted back to green. It has a Case 9190 serial tag. The steering wheel has the Case Old Ave Eagle logo and a Case IH logo on the grille. Rare tractor. My understanding is that 18 9190s were built. All the cooler on 16 Firestone tires.

They have 800 Metrics on the Tiger shown in this short. The issue they found is the larger tire is slipping too much in their soil. The narrower Firestone is giving the extra little bit of grip times four while not leaving a detectable foot print behind.

I think most offer triples. Wide duals are probably better for flotation. Ive seen dual LSW 1200s on a larger JD and of course the dual 1400s on the Big Bud 747.

It spreads the weight out farther so it’s not pressing down in a concentrated area.

@@bigtractorpower I know. Still it seems to defy logic to me. It's funny how physics works. That's why I studied it. It would seem like it's still a lot of weight even spread out would still be a lot of soil compaction. Yet that's how fully loaded barges stay afloat.

The 9190 is turning a 60ft drill and a commodity cart so the turning radius is pretty wide.

I wouldn't be so worried about a reduced turning circle so much as the front tyres colliding with the rears on a turn, if the driver wasn't paying attention - a lapse in concentration only has to happen once, then it's catastrophic damage to the axles. As it is, the loading on the axles must be enormous. I'm assuming that the standard length axle is being used and that the additional wheels are clamped to each other, since Stiegers don't use 'bar' axles ? Personally, I'd probably weld on some kind of stop at the rear of the front frame, so that a mechanical stop would prevent the tyres from colliding with each other during a turn. When IH brought out their 'Snoopy' tractors in 1979, the warned owners not to put duals on the front axle, as it wasn't rated for duals. Some farmers ignored that advice and mounted duals anyway, with the risk of the tyres contacting each other during a turn. According to one source, IH allegedly supplied shorter stroke ram cylinders that turned the tractor in a larger radius than standard, so that catastrophic damage did not occur.

Tiger size Steigers are stout machines.

Probably about equal weight (if not more), but spread across a wider track, not sure about the total area and ground pressure though.

For this farm they were looking for some extra traction from the tires and less spin.

The Tigers have RABA axles which are very tough. The farmer says they handle the quad tires with out issue.

@@bigtractorpower ,, good to know. I'm a machinist and have built quite a few machines in my time where overhang load is a concern and it just looked precarious is all.

As long as on flat ground, likely ok. Its when load is only on outer tires.

Sure you can. The 16 tires spread out the weight and the 16 tires grip more surface.

@@bigtractorpower sorry but no. With a fixed weight of tractor, the more rubber means less psi on ground. Traction comes from penetration - that's why tractor tires have lugs - try a tractor with bald tires.

No they would not. They want a little bit of grip in their soil and the 800 metric triples used on their Tiger spin too much. This quad tire set up gives the traction and floatation desired.

They won’t. There’s just a few inclhes of clearance left. (Source, I know the owner and have a picture of it maxed out)

The farmer felt he wanted a little more bite and has been very pleased with the results on the 9190 on quads vs. his Tiger ST 470s on metric triples . Less wheel slip.

I am not sure if the price. For this farm they are a good investment to make a powerful classic a modern day power house in the field.

I found for the soil conditions, where they are in North Dakota that this tire set up, works best to improve traction and flotation for them
