Hard work is good for the mind and body, hard work for a friend is good for the soul. Watching friends cut and split wood for another friend whos strength is fading is the very essence of what a community and a village is supposed to be. Thank you Vartan! Thank you Buckin! Thank you Brian!

Cutting dirty wood is not much fun, especially the repeated sharpening. But you made me smile, when you described that as ‘dirty wood’. The other day I was cutting old oak, that had been down two years and stacked against a wall. Bark almost fell off but covered in gritty earth, welded to the ground and has a late resident wasp nest. Every half tank requiring a quick dressing file. Yep. Time comes to us all. Just hang in there and keep going while you can. You may have to adjust how you work or just lessen the time. But when you’re used to doing something, no matter what. If it’s doing you good and helping out family & friends. Then giving up could make your mind wander. So let time to others and keep going while you may. May time be your friend, not your enemy. So you didn’t get all of it done yesterday, there’s still tomorrow.

I just inherited my uncle's primary firewood saw, a 357XP w/ 20" bar. It's the most powerful saw I have now. (My other saw is a 55 w/ 18"...) Interesting to see it run a 24" bar. But at only 1 lb more you're making a good sales pitch for the 372.

I have owned about every brand of chain saw over the last 45 years. My all-time favorite was a Jonsered 910. I used Husqvarna for many years but the last pair I bought, 1 worked great and the other one was nothing but trouble and Husqvarna warranty proved to be worthless. Probably my second favorite was a Shindaiwa 375. Echo now owns Shindaiwa and brands them Echo. I find that 75% of my wood cutting is done with a 50cc saw, with a 16" bar. My new favorite is an Echo 501P. It is a great saw, cuts fast, and has been trouble free. A sharp chain is everything. If I was younger, I would have a 70-90 cc saw but my backup is an Echo 590 Timberwolf with 20" bar. If I need anything bigger, I need help anyway. I know several professional loggers and call them if I need help.

You're amazing man, I started watching your videos when I was looking to understand chains.. You made it very clear, after you tips, my chains are now eating wood like butter. It's very small wood tho I live in eastern Canada, in the maritimes, a place called Magdalen Islands and we don't have much trees here and the ones we have are very small. I would LOOOOOVE to fall a big monster like you do.

@rileyjohnston8393 8 ай бұрын
@@llewmatthews4828 I think the battery tech is going to continue to improve and will become more common, but I think it will be a while before anything electric can compete with a 70+cc saw. I had a thermodynamics professor that explained how he didn’t think we would see viable electric airliners for several decades because no battery can currently come close to storing as much energy per weight as petroleum. So I think smaller electric saws will get better but it (hopefully) be a while before they can compete with the big saws 🤠

I understand now, the 24 inch bar looks the right size in 'timber' dragged out in log form, where it had just got too 'tree like' to remain in field hedgerow situations. The problem or difficulty with stuff that wants to turn into a tree in a hedgerow situation, is the hedge type stuff has to compete for resources with the tree type stuff. And it can't compete. Thhe point is, that's timber for sure and hardwood that comes out of a hedgerow, and is dragged away as logs. But it's still handy enough in scale that a 24 inch bar doesn't look ridiculously small in it. This Canada timber, even the smallest of those logs, the twenty four inch bar does start to disappear into it and get lost.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 26 күн бұрын
What's missing in the Canadian set of tools though (because the axe tool is well established and embedded into the culture of the Pacific there), is the poorer relation to the axe, which is the briar hook and, or the humble slasher. Just for pre-cutting survey and investigation. Brush cutters have somewhat eliminated the need for these tools which are like poorer relations to the axe. Yet, a briar hook tool or the axe doesn't occupy as much space as a brush cutter. And the hand tool doesn't need two stroke.

I own chainsaws because I need them. I'm a pro woodworker so they earn their keep and keep me in firewood. On my earnings you need all the cheap heating you can get. Chainsaws are a work out. That's okay. Mostly I use my Stihl 660 25" and 362 20" to break up logs. My back is strong so I don't mind bending and lifting with my knees. Sharpening ? Been doing it all my life. But I see so many neighbours thrashing blunt teeth ! You can't teach them though....It's in one ear and out the other. They will work that sucker to death then change the chain ! Get them sharpened at the stealership. Lol. Dealer's give bad advice to the chumps but they know better than to bullshit the pros. I'm to honest to sell chainsaws.

Those 357s are amazing little saws but your 100% dead on though, I’d rather have the weight and extra power of the 372. That’s why I run my 046, it’s got some really aggressive porting and it’s way more power than a stock and a lot of ported 500is, and that extra power makes up for the extra weight. I’m sure the rip saw 500 would give my 046 a run for it’s money though
