This video made my day. Prior to watching it, I dug out my old super xl and gave it a once over. Fuel line was dry rotted. Did a quick fix. Primed the carb. 3 pulls, fired right up. Haven't ran it for over 25 years but glad I dug it out. Gonna replace the bar and chain and put it to use. Buckin, you are an inspiration to so many. Not sure you nor the community, will ever fully know or understand the impact you have on the world. God bless you

Quit following for a bit. No reason. Just life got busy. Glad to jump back in and see you’re the same man of character and work ethic you always were. My business made more money this summer than I could have dreamt. I was sorely tempted to spend it. Buy more material things. Etc. Good to come back here and be reminded that simplicity and contentment will always win out.

I don't think that I've ever seen a man who honestly loves and enjoys a hard physical labor more than Billy here. It's a joy to watch him enjoy doing the work and seeing his face glow with satisfaction. I have to be honest with you guys, I'm not that kind of a guy.. Hell, I own a landscaping business and although I do enjoy cutting grass, when the summer heat arrives I can't wait to finish a lot and find a nearest shade. During the heat season, lets say May to September, I put in 3 hours in the morning (7-10 am), run home to hit a shower, and then put in another 2 hours in the late afternoon (6-8 pm). I'm sweating like a pig and loosing energy faster than a fake Chinese Makita battery.. Billy, you're an inspiration and my hero...

I grew up chopping wood with my pops in northern California. We use to chop around 250 to 300 cords a year when the 518 was running. I always prefer a maul sense they don't get stuck. I do like swinging a sharp axe once in a while but if I'm going for production the maul all the way! Love watching the channel!

I grew up in Yugoslavia , in Bosnian mountains and Billy is just like one of your cousins or uncles! Old school !!! Tough but just! We used to chop wood for days on end , grandad even made kids axes for myself and a few cousins (we were all about 10 or 11 yrs old) Mountain folks have to grow up real quick , I don’t care what Mountain you’re from! It brings a lot of really good memories from childhood just watching a guy chop the crap out of that wood😅😂🤣! My favourite are the old Balkan bearded axe! Bulgarian or Serbian , nobody really knows exactly! 15 inch blade on a reinforced neck, just awesome! My father still uses his great-grandfathers Austrian 8 pounder axe, narrow profile! Dream to work with, she never had a crack in her! Made in 1890s !!😅 It is also about tradition and in the Balkans we have a really long history with nature and working it to our advantage , for that you’ll need good tools, and brother on your channel I’ve seen some absolutely amazing axes and incredible old chainsaws! I talk too much I just like axes and chainsaws( not into football teams or sports) . ! Well it’s the weekend I’m in sunny Australia 🇦🇺 enjoying a video from 🇨🇦 Canada I already had a few bourbons 🥃 ! So today , to me it feels like an awesome day and I just wish all good and kind hearted people the same! Stay safe and chop chop!!😂😅✌️🇦🇺

Misty Mountain Project you’re right and it’s not the kids fault! We’re all products of our environment and I love my mountain folk , we are an endangered species brother! My grandfather told us that soft kids make weak minded men and women and he was right! I got a good friend from Tennessee Mr.Daniels 😂🥃 ! I know what you mean but fortunately there are still kids who embrace their instincts and just have a good old time in the country whether they live there or are just visiting! There’s hope for the next generation though , we need Steve McQueen back or John Wayne old school role models but nooo we get Bradley Cooper and shit😅 I’m just mumbling shit now! Stay safe brother I hope you and your family come out good and healthy after this virus bullshit !✌️🇺🇸

You're absolutely right about axes is all about what you will use them for, Buckin'. My wedge banger forestry (HB) axe has a shorter but very high strength handle and wide edge but not so heavy head. Edge profile is very sharp angled to cut crossways fibre and to debark. If I use it to split fresh wood I can nearly slam it in to the eye and never get it loose again. :D I'm very sad over the only HVA 200-series saw I have left is a 242XPG and not any of the bigger ones. Now at 63y it would have been fun to have some left, but when I changed them in to newer it was every year routine. ;...( But the 242 is still in my trunk everyday as the final solution! Revs insane, quick, powerful for its size and never have any problems.

Buckin' I wanted to share a story with you. I'm 16 and live in OH and love saws and firewood. My good friend's family owns a farm where his grandparents and uncle lives. The road to get to this farm requires a jeep to get up its so bad. Unfortunately, They were taken advantage of by TWO separate logging companies because my friend's grandpa shook hands instead of signing a contract. The companies own them $40,000 and won't pay since no contract was signed. I am spending my time out there helping his grandpa heat his house by cutting and splitting all the wood by my hand for some old non running mccullochs and it hurts me to see this happen. Wish y'all the best of luck and stay safe.

I switched my saws to 28 inch bars after watching your videos Saves a guys back and makes the saw more versatile. Stand up and buck makes a lot of sense. If you use the tip of the bar correctly long bars work great with less kickback. Dad and I worried about the larger bars kicking back due to my size I'm 26 years old and about your sons size but it wasn't an issue in fact the smaller bars kick back more . Keep on keeping on my friends!

A maul will out split an axe just about any day. I have a 6# maul and my biggest axe is a 5# single bit. The TT single bit splits fine but the maul will beat it to death because it concentrates its weight over a smaller surface area. I usually use them in combination. Let the maul split the wood and the axe finish up the sectioning of the pieces. The axe will do a good job on short rounds but on 20-24 inch rounds the maul does a better job.

Bucking Billy my observation is you look more comfortable with the axe because of how you use it to split and how you flip the logs into position for the next split it looks faster after the initial split .Boy can you split some wood .l used to split all my wood that way . Conserving body now bought a log splitter saves a lot of back.I am 75years old in good shape still like splitting by hand on occasion but now because l do Landscaping full time it's not practical to use up resources .You know.Love what you do and teach.Keep it upCliff

My mother was a force in the woodpile when she was younger. I only got a glimpse of it, one day i tried to hand her the 6 lb maul I was using. She refused, said she only used 8lb! I thought she was bluffing, but no, my father confirmed later on.
@jeremysullivan33283 жыл бұрын
I agree with her 8 pounder is better exspesally in hardwood
@petehendry47563 жыл бұрын
In my humble opinion the advantages of a maul are 1 ; A maul has a much wider (or thicker) head than an axe so it keeps the wood away from the sides of the handle just under the eye where an axe handle is often beat up . 2 ; a maul has a big enough and strong enough poll to withstand being beat on with a sledge hammer repeatedly without mushrooming as bad as an axe ( almost every one of my 100 + vintage heads have a mushroomed poll ) and it also has more beef around the eye so it doesn't deform. 3 ; the mauls weight and large poll make it capable of driving steel splitting wedges . I don't think a maul splittes much better than an axe . It's extra weight and handle length (store bought mauls usually 36) doesn't split much that an axe won't, not enough to justify the extra effort to swing a maul. JMHO .
@unclefuddelmer92243 жыл бұрын
Pete Hendry ...Pete, I’m of the same opinion after a lifetime of processing firewood with chainsaws, axes and mauls. Ace has its place for sure but for splitting firewood, to the tune of 25-35 chords per year, I learned early on that an 8# maul suited me better. Took me awhile to get the swing down, at 5’-10” 200# but once I did I could split n stack all day. Most FUN work of my whole life actually! Keep m sharp...< N.PA
