G’day Tomislav, I really enjoy your turning, no music except natural lathe sounds, fantastic. It would be nice and as a teaching/learning tool some speech or text would be very good to explain. Why did you chuck piece with plastic, was it to avoid moisture on chuck or for holding power. Thanks

Thank you Greg, most of my videos are with talking, some of them are silent as I have other stuff to turn as well...🤗 Plastic I use when the wood is still green to not stain the wood with jaws

In this neck of the woods we have mostly evergreens (soft wood) so we burn softwood and save the hardwood for turning. Very little hardwood makes it into the fireplace!!! I like the thicker rim on the deeper bowl, nice detail. 😃

Thank you 👍 what would be that neck of the woods? I know that scandinavians have a tone of softer woods, ☺️

@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning Olympic Peninsula, Washington State, USA. Olympic National Park is my backyard. Temperate rainforest. My native hardwoods are Big Leaf Maple (with figure and burl), Western Red Alder (rots quickly), willows, Pacific yew (rare), dogwood (rare), Gerry Oak (protected) and Pacific Madrona (very unpredictable wood-but fun). The maple is the only one regularly used for turning. However, we do get many landscaping trees imported to our area and they get grabbed up quickly. Orchard cherry, English Walnut, fruit, and nut trees are common. Also Oriental maples, European maples, London Plane, Holly, etc. Too wet for ash, elm, and most East Coast species. Our softwoods are mostly very big cedars, firs, and spruce. We produce a lot of construction wood and record size trees.

So close to keeping that bark. And such a nice thin bowl. Still a beautiful natural edge and enjoyable watch.

Indeed, I prefer on this one without bark, but in most cases bark stay on Thank you for watching

This looks great without bark. In fact, I've tired of bark, but some buyers are infatuated, so some bark bowls. Sometimes I'll char the natural edge for contrast, and this way, the bowl might end up as a salad bowl. I'm a new fan. Subscribed from South Carolina, US

Great bowl. Why did you put a piece of plastic between the chuck and the tennon?
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning 4 ай бұрын
To prevent staining the wood since its green and jaws will stain it

A pity about the bark, but still a very pretty bowl. Hardwoods do burn hotter and longer than softwoods, but they also turn nicer and more beautiful. (I'd say). Thanks for another instructive video
