Live steam and diesel miniature locomotives at the International Live Steam Convention in New Zealand, January 2018 at the Nelson Society of Modellers. For more information, keep an eye out for the September-October 2018 issue of Live Steam Magazine. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten traction engines! Part 2 will be exclusively traction!

Hats off to the creators of the layout at The Nelson Society of Modellers of New Zealand. Fabulous, I know of no exhibit area as such in central USA where I reside . The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. I have been in love with trains for over 50 years. I build miniature hit and miss engines and want to do a train some day.

Nice video. I don't why the 21 dislikes are there. They must be jealous of New Zealand and all its beauty. Those were some really nice shots of all the different types of engines live steam, and diesel electric. I was really fascinated at how the diesel electrics operated just like the real deals do. You panned the shot with all panels off you see the scaled down generator just humming along converting RPM s in to electricity just like the real thing. The live steams were awesome I think is awesome the you are preserving a historical process. Granted it is antiquated but still the way they operate is so awesome how they are able to put weight, how they are constructed and like all engines the slightest error in torquing all the bolts correctly can mean disaster. When everything is right it's a well oiled machine.🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃

The dislikes were explained to me as a phenomenon where when people click on a video and it's not what they expected, they hit the dislike button thinking it's like the Pandora music service, where it modifies what is shown to them based on their likes and dislikes. Also, I am sure there are people out there who genuinely dislike the video! :D

Rough castings for locomotives are available from a small set of suppliers to the hobby such as Allen Models, etc. Metal stock can be ordered from your local or national metal supply company. In larger cities at least in the USA there are usually local suppliers of brass, bronze and steel. Some people build from a set of plans and rough castings, and then add in machined steel, brass and bronze bushings where needed, others build completely from scratch using no castings or from plans that require no castings.

The shay at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d5h1Zath3bXNmmw.html was great to see, I work for a museum in Komoka, Ontario (Canada) that houses a 1913 shay locomotive so its a real treat to see a model one. We are the proud owners of a Juliet 2 by LBSC (with baker valve gear) that was built by my grandfather.

CaptainHarlock999 has to be Rio Grande 482. I think that engine used to run at the Dobwalls Miniature Railway in Cornwall, because when that railway was closed the American locos were sent overseas. My dad has many fond memories of that line, he even drove the Queen of Nebraska FEF-3

This is in New Zealand but some modelers enjoy making and operating USA prototype engines. The Shay was built in New Zealand by Dave Giles. New Zealand had many Shays on its logging railways, imported from the US from Lima. The K-36 was purchased from the US and shipped over by a Colorado Narrow Gauge afficionado in New Zealand. There is also an American style 4-4-2 Atlantic you can see running in a few clips.
@donnamarie3617
@donnamarie3617 5 жыл бұрын
Actually, we didn't have any Shay's here in NZ, plenty of Heisler and Climax, but oddly not a single Shay. Dave's model is of a generic 2' loco, and he has built a few that are running here and around the world.
@MasseeMedia
@MasseeMedia 5 жыл бұрын
I sure thought there were shays there. Must have been thinking of Aussie. I ran Dave's engine at a previous convention...fun as a 'sit-inside' loco.
