Ron Bramlett of Mustangs Plus has the answer to a question many customers have been asking. The question is when did the Mustang make its first appearance on a national TV Show?
Answer:
-The show name is Hazel.
-The show episode was called "Let's get away from it all."
-The original air date was April 16th 1964.
At the beginning of this episode which aired on April 16, 1964, we see Hazel, George, Dorothy, and Harold getting into their new red Ford Mustang coupe and going out to dinner. This is followed by a special opening credit sequence showing Hazel driving the Mustang out of the driveway, which aired only in this episode. This was a special promotion by Ford, a sponsor of the show, who had introduced the Mustang to the public at the New York World's Fair on the previous day.

My dad worked for Ford back then. I remember when he brought one home to test drive. We all took turns going for a ride. I still feel the same way as I did back then. The Ford Mustang was the most most beautiful car ever built.

Best looking car ever made. 65-66 Mustang coupe. Every line is just beautiful. Not too fancy and swoopy, not too small, not too big, still does not look dated to this day. Just an attractive car all around. Masterpiece.

You will also notice that in the last couple of episodes of the '63-'64 season, and the first episode of the 1964-65 season, the opening credits show Hazel driving a Mustang up the driveway (an early production model since the letters on the hood are somewhat out of alignment!)

Ford was the main sponsor of the show. Little Buntrock has a Thunderbird Jr. in the show openings. It did take a minute from the April '64 introduction to actually see Mustangs on the street. Many people likely saw the car up close initially via gratuitous scenes on TV like this.

@@seikibrian8641 Subliminal advertising can be right there in front of you, (how the other half lives, which by definition is how you should want to live, how to dress, what car you should want) but because it's not the star of the show, it's not as obvious as "BUY THIS!" It's the reason carmakers supplied cars to TV shows for the actors to drive to begin with. Darren Stephens pulling into the driveway sold a whole lot of Chevys. So did Ward Cleaver and Mike Brady with Chryslers. And when Wally Cleaver and Greg Brady bought their beater jalopies 10 years apart, they were both old Chevys, not Plymouths. Now that's subliminal advertising.

0:13: Hazel says "Maybe Italian food," and George says "I could go for some spaghetti and meatballs tonight." Spaghetti and meatballs is NOT Italian, it's American. ;-)

Myth. It is Italian. Also, Italians coming over to America found that meat was a fraction of the cost it was where they came from, so they made use of ground beef extensively for meatballs. From Sicily and other areas of Southern Italy, to new Italians in their kitchens in America, this is totally a dish creating by Italians. More here, scroll down: daniel-bellino-zwicke.com/italian-american/

@@ToyKingWonder "Italians coming over to America found that meat was a fraction of the cost it was where they came from..." Correct. That's why Italian-Americans created dishes like veal parmigiana and chicken parmigiana, whereas in Italy parmigiana was traditionally made only with eggplant. But while Italians in Italy do have meatballs, it is not customary to serve them on spaghetti; they would be separate dishes if not separate courses. (The biggest myth, though, is that Fettuccine Alfredo is American. Alfredo Di Lelio created it in Rome in the early 1900s, by modifying an existing recipe for pasta al burro.)

@@ToyKingWonder "More here, scroll down: daniel-bellino-zwicke.com/italian-american/" By the way, you should re-read your link. It clearly says that in Southern Italy meatballs were served with short macaroni, and NOT over spaghetti. So even your link agrees with me that spaghetti and meatballs is American in origin, and NOT traditional Italian fare.

Bill Brock. My Dad bought a Mustang GT in May of 1965. It was owned by an Ford Executive and Ford wanted to get it out to the public. It was decked out with the up graded Pony interior. The car was white with blue/white interior and wood trim on the console/dashboard too. It had the rally pack. That was my favorite part of the interior. Along with the 3 speed Cruise A Matic, 4bbl 289 V-8 at 225 hp. It was a demo so the dealer gave it away to my Dad for $3000. Gawd how I wish I had that beautiful car today.
