From a first responder perspective, I think your kit is great. It can buy you critical time until you can get more help. I realize you have limited space but I would recommend an npa (nasopharyngeal airway) in case cpr needed to be performed and the airway compromised. Also a small space blanket to help mitigate shock. Thank you again for putting out great content.

gideonstactical would feel really bad if you needed something and it wasn't able to help you. working in emergency services, I've seen it happen w peo. taking lifesaving meds that lost their potency cuz they were in non airtight containers.

I carry an NPA/OPA kit in my vehicle kit, but I do not recommend them to people without some level of training with them. use, and even size selection is something that you should learn in a controlled environment. ( for reference, I was combat medic trained, and also certified as a civilian EMT1, after I got out. both are lapsed, but I still have the information)

@blaiserobert2297 6 жыл бұрын
yeah they're great but i wouldn't recommend it to people who dont know how to use them there are contraindications that people need to know before using them and also sizing is very important. so if someone doesnt know how to use them id prefer they dont attempt to use one on me and im speaking from an EMT prospective.

Ever since I have gotten back into tactical gear, knives, camping, EDC, etc. and do a video search of any particular subject and/or item, when scrolling through the results, any time I see a GT video in the mix it's ALWAYS the first one I click. Your material is so informative and reliable. Several of my recent purchases have been based on your reviews. Search..."first aid kit items" ....results include GT "First Aid Kit Build: 2017 Supplies Update". First one I click and had all the info that I needed to make my PFAK complete. Thank you!

Benzalkonium (BZK) large pads. Great for large area sanitation before stitches or on road rash. Triangular bandages for slings and rags. Burn cream. Loperamide diarrhea medicine. Moldable aluminum splint. Hemostats.

Went on our first Ice Climbing Trip 2 weeks ago, a lot of people who usually go climbing told me I didn't need to pack emergency supplies and a first aid kit. Then as we got up closer to the water falls on our way to finding some ice. A young woman had actually fallen down after taking pictures by the waterfall. She had fallen into the water and was hypothermic, she also looked like she was bleeding from a head wound. Luckily I ignored the advice given to me on traveling "stupid light" and was able to wrap her in an SOL Survival Blanket. I also carried hemostatic gauze and an ace wrap, her bleeding had stopped and rescue services did arrive 10-15 mins later. I have since reevaluated my kit and will now be carrying a few more items. Thanks for the vid sir.

Nice kit Aaron. I think most people, who love the great outdoors, should take a first aid course to familiarise themselves with equipment and techniques. Oh and like the new gloves..........they make your large sized hands look..........large. Keep 'em coming my friend.

Good Job! I'd add a small Signal Mirror so as to check out your own facial wounds if you get hurt on a Solo Hike. Same thing as you have in your Rescue Signaling Kit. Just slide it on top of the SWAT-T. It's also good in case something Bites you in the Butt, literally, like a Spider Bite if you sit in the wrong location. Hope this helps.

Great video. Too many people don't have any idea what to do so I would add a first aid basic instruction manual that folds up and preferably waterproof. Some kits come with them. Also abd pads are used in hospitals-all 4 of the ones I worked in used them. You can use a kotex pad if you need one and a female responder is in the group. An extra heavy flow one would be great. Also if you can find it, betadine is great in liquid form to replace iodine and I prefer povodine salve to triple antibiotic-it seems to work better on diabetics like me and keep infections away! A small strip of latex or other (some people are allergic to latex) stretchy item could be helpful for finger or toe amputations I witnessed and helped take a coworker at a factory slice off 3 fingers and all we had were clean rags on hand and the victim grabbed the rag from me and clamped down on it to hold the bleeding down while I granbbed the fingers off the cutting table in another clean rag and we drove him right over to the Doctors Office while an ambulance was arranged for. No 911 or OSHA in that time period! Last but not least everyone should learn first aid and other basic precautions because anything can happen anywhere even at home!

Nice pack Gideon! I just want to remind you, remember that most people with shellfish allergies are also allergic to iodine. Just a quick FYI if you didn't already know. You can easily switch out iodine with rubbing alcohol which will essentially do the same thing.

I'm on the hunt for a tourniquet and watched this to get an idea on a kit as well. Great video, great info. I have my LTC so the tourniquet is the #1 item right now & something i should have bought a year ago. I have a 9 year old step son & kids tend to hurt themselves at any time so I'll be starting work on a med kit next pay day. Thanks for the video man.

Great kit. I would add a sharpie for writing time on a tourniquet and a little notepad to write down things like time and dosage of medication. Since I travel a lot between two european nations with different emergency numbers, I also keep a laminated card with the numbers for both nations with the notepad. (we still have different numbers for ambulance, police, firefighters, toxicology center...)

I carry 2 because we carry guns. Accidents happen and if you carry tools that make holes , you need tools to fix them until help arrives too. A TQ is like $25 well worth the money to carry a couple. Just my opinions of course.

Another great vid Aaron. Very informative. Thanks to people like you, you give guys like me ideas and information especially to stuff like first aid/first aid kits. I got 2 boys of my own and boys being boys, they tend to get into some rough housing when they play. That is why it would be a great idea to have a first aid kit at the ready just in case. I am planning to start to build a first aid kit of my own and this vid gave me some ideas on how to start. Keep up the good job and God bless.

Love these videos Aaron thanks, That Celox Z fold is amazing for wound packing as well.. I carry the Celox Granules personally, I keep a few Quickclot sponges as well, Rats TQ and some large Gauze sponges., Rolled gauze, Shears, and the Olaes bandage... I have the exact same Vanquest I use it on my Rush 12. I wanted a 2nd Ifak for my TAD Fastpack EDC so I ended up getting the UCR by 5.11 a little more roomier but basically same contents as the Vanquest. And an extensive med kit for the car... You my friend have an uncanny resemblance to my roommate from my school days.... Cheers from Canada

Two suggestions from a former medic for you to consider: Ditch the CAT and and get a SOF-T. It's idiot proof and when you're hands are bloody as fuck you're going to be able to actually grip the SOF-T and use it. It is also far more durable than a CAT. Obviously you have fans of both systems and both systems absolutely work, but I find the SOF-T to be the better all around T. Consider finding a former medic or corpsmen to train you in the use of Ace wraps and Kerlex. An ace wrap and kerlex is by far the most versatile combo for wound management. You can tackle wounds that a a regular bandage or tourniquet cannot such as an inguinal or axillary bleed in addition to abrasions, avulsions, lacerations, and puncture wounds. It also blows that piece of shit Isreali bandage out of the water for packing and pressure applications. Couple the ace/kerlex with a hemostatic agent and you're ready to fuck, fight, and throw dynamite.

I think you over look the importance of regular sized band aids for smaller wounds, especially while out on trips like hiking small wounds can easily become infected if left alone and can end up proving to more deadly in the long run. It’s important to treat any wounds no matter what size because infection is a bitch. Also I suggest replacing some of those iodine pads with alcohol or prep wipes bc iodine inhibits the body’s ability to heal.

I'm not a medical person, but everything I read says that iodine should only be used topically, and that it is too strong to use on the open wound itself. Better ideas for washing wounds are a mild saline solution, a mild soapy solution, or just plain purified water.

I grew up getting Mercurochrome wiped on all cuts. It was a small thin glass bottle full of the liquid with a glass rod on the cap that let you wipe the wound with the stuff. Then put it back in the medicine cabinet for the next person to use same glass rod on their wound. We all lived. Of course it contained mercury, but I'm ok, ok, ok.....

if a tourniquet isn't needed i honestly dont see why you would use celox or quikclot or any clotting agent that is granular. you would really only use those if pressure doesnt work, then a tourniquet doesnt work, then you would use something like celox. otherwise cleaning that shit out is a pain in the freakin ass. that is really a last resort thing to use.
