As a firefighter, these firefighter’s behavior is absolutely appalling. This chief should have immediately introduced himself to the citizen, offered a handshake, invited him in, and asked the citizen what he would like to see and what questions he had. With that kind of welcoming spirit, the citizen would probably have given his name. The chief should have then let the crews know there was a guest, have personnel introduce themselves, and have an officer assign a FF to the guest to offer a tour and answer questions. These types of protocols exist to prevent this exact thing from happening and I know this department has these protocols in place. This could have gone completely differently. They never refer to him as sir. We’ve had all kinds of auditors, and crackheads, and boyscouts, and single moms (and single dads), and whoever, come to the station and they always get the same treatment: a riveting tour of the station and equipment by an over caffeinated, probationary FF. Any who. Any FF out there watching this need to take note of how not to behave when citizens come to the station. All of it belongs to (and you work for) them.

There has to be someone in the firehouse at all times some even make at least 2 stay there at all times for this reason. That is exactly why at least 1 of these guys stays on site at all times.

Fire departments are flying under the radar. All the shinny trucks and perfect lawns hide a lot of possible unnecessary equipment and salaries. Far from perfect.

This was horrible! They SHOULD be welcoming, and even trying to recruit more and more firefighters to be on their force either as a volunteer or paid. But watching this, who in their right mind would want to work for these tyrants. And that's exactly what they are, wanting to know things they don't need to know, who you are, what are you doing (you answered but not what they wanted to hear), stand here, do this, do that, jump this high, sit down this low, omg.....horrible example. I heard whenever an 'on duty' agent uses there private phone to create a public record their phone is confiscated for a couple/few weeks to recover the evidence. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Any auditor or anyone else that catches them using their private phone to record *_MUST_* request the footage. Huge deterrent to keep them in line 👍

Clearly inhospitable people at both fire houses. Then again they probably do not get that many visitors in their buildings. I can see why they were so apprehensive. The guys at the second station explained pretty well their position. I would still FOIA request the Lt's camera pictures/recordings. Just to send a message, educate them and to spark a conversation within their group of firefighters.

You'd assume they'd be very welcoming and accommodating considering the vast diversity in the pictures. SMH.
