James P. i like your open mindedness, but saying things like "christians could be right" is simply false, their bible makes claims, and we know for a fact that they are wrong, take the first few verses from genesis for example (the first book which sets up the entire series).

I have a theory, based off other theories. Tardigrades dont originate on earth. They are already prevalent throughout the universe. The are a species older than earth. Tardigrades are responsible for seeding complex life in the universe through panspermia, and evolution based on the conditions of each specific environment on different planets they collide with. If it finds a planet that is already forming complex bacterias and other microbes, a type of symbiotic evolution occurs where the tardigrade and bacteria perpetuate each others existence by providing each other sustenance through death and birth, until a diversity starts to form, and the template vertebrate begins to meta-morph into entirely new species, along with bacteria, eventually creating the genetic diversity we see on earth.
@jdogsful
@jdogsful 10 жыл бұрын
Lol. nice one.
@jdogsful
@jdogsful 10 жыл бұрын
The thing about tardigrades, is that billions of years of evolution could take it in every direction. The have 8 limbs and an exo skeleton, hinting it could become more insect like, with time. The also have teeth, complex digestive system, fingers, muscle, spine, hinting it could also become reptilian and avian, and eventually mammal like, with lots of time. But we just learned that time is of no issue to tardigrades. But id like to know more about how they reproduce.
@johndavies115
@johndavies115 10 жыл бұрын
The thing is they can survive without food or water for 10 years, which is amazing....but it still isn't nearly long enough. You would need light years to really get anywhere, and I doubt these things could ever travel at the speed of light of greater. It is an interesting notion though.
@jdogsful
@jdogsful 10 жыл бұрын
johndavies115 Nah, water bears go in and out of a type of suspended animation when dehydrated. They could survive in space for millions or years, then crash land on a distant, wet, habitable planet, and boom. He's awake. But again, we need to understand more about their reproduction. Theyre too big for mitosis.
@KDD0063
@KDD0063 10 жыл бұрын
johndavies115 Where you approach the speed of light the rest of the universe is Lorenz contracted, so a journey of 8 light years would appear to be 8+ years for people you left behind on earth, but you would experience it as much less. The closer you get to the speed of light the more this effect happens so you could cross millions of light years in 1 second (as you experience it) but it would be still millions of years to others. If you went the speed of light (which is impossible) you would be everywhere in the universe at once.

@JappyChan
@JappyChan 10 жыл бұрын
That is hard to say, the human race does not know if Jupiter has water on the surface of the planet. It is possible they came from one of the moons of Jupiter. We can say for sure that is possible they could have came from Mars because we have actually proof that there is water on Mars.
@DavidJJames
@DavidJJames 10 жыл бұрын
Or Europa, one of the moons of Jupiter. There is definitely water there, but high radiation. If tardigrades can take high radiation then they might have come from there. Jupiter itself has such high gravity that anything that could actually move from the spot there would be pinging about like a flea on musth in Earth's weaker gravity, not plodding about like a microscopic sloth like this one.

Absolutely amazing. Nice short film....Astronomy and Cosmology have been a hobby of mine since childhood and I never knew such a creature existed (that can survive in space for more than a trivial amount of time). I like the point about the improbability that they came from interstellar space; however, if I were this guy I would be asking NASA to explore for fossils on Mars (as a potential past habitat). That is much, much more plausible!

like you can make 100x bigger animal just by some formula, don't be an idiot. You need 100 times more data on how to build that thing, life isn't some God shit where DNA works like JAVA
@jasonofcompsci
@jasonofcompsci 10 жыл бұрын
Jaakko Mykkänen You don't need 100 time more data but you do need several generations of selection to work out the kinks that will come with sizing up. A cheuaua and a mastif are close enough in relation that they can breed, that's about a 60x difference by weight. To be fair though dogs have lungs which are an incredible evolutionary advantage when it comes to diversifying size. More ancient lifeforms are pretty restricted by their respiratory systems.

The fact that these creatures are so resilient to all these rays, temperatures, and the vacuum of space itself suggests they've experienced these extreme environments, adapted and evolved to overcome them previously. We too can do the same and take over the Universe as a species except we're too busy sitting on the couch watching KZfaq videos.

Wow, that Tardigrade is awesome! It evolved to be able to withstand pretty much anything. Makes me wonder why humans haven't evolved so far ahead, obviously we haven't had as long to evolve as the tardigrade, maybe in a few million years humans will be super smart, super tall and pretty much immortal, assuming we're still around of course :)
@BioNova9
@BioNova9 10 жыл бұрын
Why would we need to evolve? When you can create consciousness far superior than anything organic could ever be. Humans will be outdated in the next hundred years. Moores Law.
@pxlbltz
@pxlbltz 10 жыл бұрын
It's not how natural selection works. You could say that we actually evolved far ahead because of our brain. The human brain is like a pinnacle of evolution. Our intelligence makes physical evolution obsolete. We are able to change our environment to our needs e.g. instead of growing fur against the cold we invented the heater, instead of evolving wings we use airplanes to fly and so on.

***** I have no idea how anything that I said could give you the impression of me being Christian. I'm actively opposed to any religion. I'm not saying that we are done evolving. For example, future generations will very likely be immune to a lot of germs and viruses. But that to us physical evolution is obsolete wasn't my best comment, I give you that ;-)

Years later those Tardigrades that have been into space evolve into grotesque creatures thousands of times their original size and feed on crab meat and goldfish, all due to the increased amounts of radiation that they received while in spaaaaaaace.

*sigh* Wasn't a serious comment. I figured the whole "while in *spaaaaaaaaace*" and the random references to their "feeding preference" (crab meat and goldfish) might have helped people figure that out a little bit, but obviously not. For that I apologize. I will be sure to add a disclaimer at the bottom of my comments from now on...

@patricklbn 10 жыл бұрын
I've never said it can't be killed lol... I just said that the preassure is ultimate, no mather if u use ur fingers, rocks or anything else. If you take liquid, and put a lot of preassure it will solidify, if you do the same to gas it might turn into liquid, and then into solid. What I was trying to say, is that you cant make enough preassure with your fingers to kill it.. If you dont understand the simple laws of physics, than we've got nothing to discuss about, to be honest.
