It gives deep insight into VFR and IFR flights, for pilots at all levels - experiences, students, instructors - for proficiency, safety, fun. and sharing with pilots and also friends and family and passengers. Automatic segmentation and identifications of maneuvers, scoring, animation and powerful visualization. Debriefing of aerobatic flights is work in progress.

FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER: I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.

Bit late to watching...again. But I'll still add my £0.02p worth to the comments. Wow, just wow, first attempt with no zeros is pretty impressive. This has been an excellent series and has been a major morale booster for me as under our lockdown rules I'm not even allowed to fly solo to maintain currency so being able to detach from this reality and immerse myself in yours for a time has been fantastic...please keep it up. Thanks, Mel xx

YeeeeHawww! Love it guys!! You are great! Brings lots of memories back. I did lots of aerobatics with my dad F. Don Pittman, Sapulpa , Oklahoma. One of his first aerobatic planes was The Pitts Special N11J. He bought “Joys Toy” from Joyce Case in 1962 and went the AAA Aerobatic Championships and won 1st place. He went on to also be a TWA captain. You guys are the greatest! Keep it up!!

12:54 In R/C planes, we can cheat with "dual rates". With a switch set in one position, the control surfaces are limited to a certain amount of throw, but that throw is evenly distributed throughout the full range of stick input (called 'low rates'). Then you can flick the switch to another position, and have "high rates", where the full control surface throw is available. I always thought that if you had a 'fly by wire' system, you could easily program dual rates into a full-size competition plane.

Nice work, Steve!! We appreciate all your hard work in getting all these multiple stories stitched together perfectly, too. Great series of vids!! I'm in love with that Extra, lol. I was laughing at the VSI during your routine: Maxes out clockwise and stays there ... then whips counterclockwise and maxes out there and stays, LOL! That gauge was pretty much useless during the routine. Was funny to watch! I can only imagine the sensations of all of that. As a passenger I'd have to work my way up to that, hahaha! Huge well done to you! You really can see just how hard you're having to work throughout the sequence. You were grabbing at your headset mic to regain composure. Very interesting to hear how your selection of ground reference assists so much with this and therefore is almost as important as your ability to fly the sequence itself. I'm a recently passed UK PPL so I have a long way to go before anything like this! The best thing I've managed to do so far is film a fairly benign flight in a Socata TB10. This is another level. I think you did a fantastic job. Well done 👍

As someone who is familiar with model precision aerobatics (rc aircraft), this was cool to see full size. I flew intermediate / advanced in local competitions and judged f3a. Even almost 15 years later the aresti all makes sense. Never seen it full size though. I do miss the air based RC stuff. But that is the government killing the hobby and making it accessible for only professional drone pilots.

Steve you mentioned at one point in this series that you had to take steps to prevent motion sickness. Could you say more about that? @FlightChops
@FlightChops 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve been lucky to not have an issue with motion sickness for the most part. That said, in the previous training with Luke in the Pitts S2B a few years ago, I got as close as I ever have to getting sick. I find the main cause is if you’re not in control for too long while the other pilot / instructor is demonstrating manoeuvres. So the key is to be in control as much as able so your brain is more connected to the cause of the sensations. It is interesting to note that Bob Hoover had major issues with motion sickness in his early days... and then we went on to arguably be the greatest pilot that ever lived - highly recommend his book “forever flying”!
@NathanielSalzman
@NathanielSalzman 3 жыл бұрын
@@FlightChops Thanks Steve! If Bob Hoover struggled with this than I'm in very good company. I second your recommendation for Forever Flying and I'll also recommend that everyone read Yeager (Chuck Yeager's autobiography) as a double feature. The two of them were joined at the hip at Edwards in those amazing pre-NASA days and the two books give a really interesting crossover perspective.
