I met The Ghoul twice, and he was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I wish he were still here with us now.

Who else but the Ghoul(Ron Sweed) could make chaos work on television, as he did? I'm originally from Detroit Michigan and really liked watching him in action!

I remember when Doug Podell was young had long hair and was a jock on WABX W4 then PD at the WRIF. Damn I feel old. Loved the Ghoul. Growing up in Detroit in the 70's was great. The white hall,VFW concerts , Fruit cellar, The Trading Post. I'd love to go back and do it again!

I grew up in Cleveland. Ghoulardi was the dominant figure of my childhood years, and the Ghoul was my hero during my high school years. I really miss them both.

how is this guy not a rip off of ghoulardi???? I do recall the ghoul... but have affection for ghoulardi...(Before my time/71)

I seem to vividly remember Doug as a DJ from WLLZ (98.7 FM) and also remember him hosting "The Beat" on PBS affiliate WTVS (Channel 56).

I loved watching the Ghoul back on channel 56 in Pontiac! "Hey, do you mind if I take a pizza and a 6 pack of beer with me in your car"? He then throws up in the back of the car. Timeless!

Detroit had another host of this stripe back in the sixties, Sid "Morgus" Noel. Not quite as demented as the Ghoul, but pretty crazy for the time.

I loved his show!
@grousetheghoul27545 жыл бұрын
he had an internet show, you could call in and he would read letters and clips he would tell people his responses to the live feed from the old Prodigy service. I had one of the live clips he responded to, and he replied with something 90 % or more people would be insulted by, but I knew, like everyone who followed the Ghoul, it was actually a compliment. I think I was happy for a week over that.

Supposedly, Ernie Anderson (the original Ghoulardi) tried to expand to the Toledo OH market in the early sixties, but the show was a failure because Ernie didn't know Toledo like he knew Cleveland and the show didn't work. He apparently gave up on trying to franchise his show to any other cities and left the role in 1966.

2:45 Syndicated? Those were the same seven markets where Kaiser had their TV stations.
