Hi Steve . Lovely show .....small is beautiful ! That Renown was superb, congratulations to the owner. I was surprised when you said the Marcos was an '86 but the gauges gave me a clue . The designer stayed with us for a couple of days and showed me the design including the pedal box and chassis ! This was in 1962 . As an 11year old and having a keen interest in cars l found the Marcos so futuristic and even today it still looks pretty good .....and rare ! Thanks Steve

From inside the Marcos, the bonnet is a beautiful shape - very distinctive.👍👌😁 Some wonderful cars on show Steve: the Renown obviously, and that MGC looked pretty special. Gotta love a Mark II Jag as well. Thanks for taking us with you.👍

Thank you. Love car shows. Always something different. I missed out on our local cars and coffee this weekend because the weathermen predicted rain. They were wrong :( Now I need to go back and watch the Marcos videos on my smoke breaks. (I don't smoke, so I gotta do something, right?)

I had no idea Iowa was such a mecca for British cars. I think Jeff Lane owns half the MG Ts in Nashville. Our club usually has their show at Centennial Park.

Minor correction: The Jaguar he referred to as a Series 2 is actually a Mark 2 which were the compact saloons made from 1959 to 1968. The later sedans were known as the XJ, made from 1968 to 1987 and these were referred to as Series 1, 2 or 3 depending on the year.

Nice Marcos. You will either have to get a slightly longer steering column, possibly one off a Triumph 2000/2500 or a steering wheel boss extension. Jem Marcos was indeed a tall guy. I met him at a kit car show many years ago. I am 6" 4 and he was about the same, bit of an effort to get in the car but lots of room inside once in. I even managed to get into a Mini Marcos that i had for a short time.

Our school car club in the 60s had a Triumph Mayflower, the family-sized version of the Renown. We also had a post-war Standard 8. Unfortunately, the headmaster decided that the car club and the woodworking and metalworking clubs were having a detrimental effect on the school's academic record, and a local scrapyard got the lot.

@@mikego18753 Thanks for that, it must have been some party! I can still remember the white starter button, which was similar to the one on my father's Vanguard mk 1. Talking of British classics, currently I have a 1984 Land Rover 127, similar to the one used for Prince Philip's funeral, except mine is configured as a crew cab.

A friend of mine, (since deceased) had a Marcos, which she imported here to Canada, back in the late 1960's, it was a gold or mustard yellow color I seem to recall.,. It had a Ford Cosworth 4 cylinder engine. That Triumph Renown has the distinctive 'squarish' lines in it's body shape that remind me of the 1955 era Triumph Mayflowers. Wonderful cars, all!

Mar COSS, not "Marcose". I custom fitted roll cages in some of these for racing. Plywood interior panelling meant every mount had to fixed with steel plates either side of the wood.

As well as the V6, there was a V4 version of that Essex engine, and there aren't many car engines of that layout in the world. I bet there are even fewer of those in the USA than there are Essex V6 engines.

I am surprised Americans had any use for Triumph Heralds. They are basically designed for trundling between villages in the pre motorway British countryside. In the wide open spaces of the USA they must seem a tad busy and overworked.

The last Marcos 3 litre was officially 1989/1990 but they could easily have put out a few after that, plus some were built up as kits. Probably just about able to hit 125mph. Much better with a Rover V8.

MGBs look really weird with those extra third wipers. Wonder why anyone felt they'd be necessary for the US market.

Modern cars like the FJ Cruiser and even the new electric GM Hummer EV use three windshield wipers. It is more common than people realize. Sprites, Midgets, and Jaguars all have them as well to meet US regulations.
