First Camping Trip of '22 - Arctic Fox 811 Truck Camper 22V3. The Johnsons meet up with their friend Devin, from Off-road Getaway, for their first camping trip in the Arctic Fox 811 Truck Camper. It's still winter in Northern Alberta but the boys have promised that the weather will be good for this first trip. Let's see if Mother Nature cooperates.

Downsizing from a side camper to a truck camper, well it's a process. You have a beautiful rig, it's an amazing set up. Although next time, you'll have warmer temperature to enjoy yourself.

Arctic fox 811 is my camper as well. I've been in negative 20 f. Keep a battery powered fan with, open compartment under step to the bed and under kitchen sink and pull drawers open halfway. No problem. Replace shower head (thank me later). Congrats but ditch that second vehicle. Tow a side by side or a boat! Best rig out there. Great video. Hello from northern Wisconsin.

Thanks so much for the tips!! We have a side by side and quad, but need to have an extension bar/hitch made to tow the trailer if we ditch the Gladiator. We haven’t used the shower yet, but we will definitely change the shower head (thanks in advance). Have a lovely day and Happy Camping!

I've got a 811 on a 3500 SRW Cummins too. FYI the stock wheels are not rated for that much weight & the stock rubber gets real spongy. I switched to 19.5s and been very happy. Big improvement in sway.

Thanks for the advice. We did a lot of research on tires before we got the camper and upgraded. We also added an extra leaf, which made a big difference. Are the rims and tires the only upgrade you have made? We are new to the truck camper world and welcome any and all advice. Thanks again and Happy Camping.

@@johnsonsadventurequest I also added independent air bags for leveling it left to right, since the slide side is heavier. (My main concern was the stock wheels, as they seem to be rated at only 3500lbs each).

I have the same setup and my centerline of gravity is about 5-6 inches behind the center axle line. Have you had any issues with it being tail-heavy ?

The only time we worried was the first time we took it Offroad and the airbag light came on. (on our next video) We decided to add an extra leaf to the springs and it made a huge difference. This, of course, is not a usual situation. We travelled with the Camper on the truck, and towed an 18 ft trailer with a rzr on it and it drove better than without the trailer. The Ram 3500 Limited with factory airbags and an extra leaf will haul the 811 anywhere with no worries. I hope that answered your question. Happy Camping. :)

Thanks for the comment. it wasn’t windy when we started and it was very chilly. The weather changes quickly in northern Alberta.

If you so you can get cotton rope and make your own perfect sized baskets for the arctic fox. I came very close to buying some for my trailer. And now searching for retailers for string! I'm looking forward to the adventures you may be able to take on the back roads. What is the height difference between the toy hauler and the arctic fox? May I ask if you happen to have a website for finding Crown Land in Alberta where you can camp?

Our Toyhauler was 13’4” at the highest point and the Arctic Fox Camper is 12’ (we will have to remeasure because we have added an extra leaf to the rear leaf springs on the truck since this video). We don’t have a website yet, but we do plan to work on that project. We appreciate your kind words. Happy Camping

How do you guys like the truck camper overall. Been thinking about one myself. I have a 21 foot trailer but thinking of a truck camper. More excess able and easier to maneuver in congested areas. Just me and maybe one other person, I always dry camp. Thoughts

Hi Steve. We are actually pretty happy with the truck camper. There was an adjustment period (ongoing) from the toyhauler, but we wanted to get farther off the grid and the truck camper allows us to do that. We are able to maneuver around more easily and go off-road with the truck and camper. Our next video actually shows the capabilities of the TC getting off the road, impressing us so I'm sure you will be happy. Thanks again and Happy Camping!
