Another great video! I LOVE Hanoi. The tower in the lake is Turtle Tower The island was first used as a fishing site. In the 1400s, under Lê Thánh Tông a tower was erected to improve the comfort of the king's fishing.[1] In the 17th and 18th centuries, under the Restored Lê dynasty, the Trịnh lords had Ta Vong Temple built on the islet. In the 18th century, under the Nguyễn lords the temple disappeared. In 1886, while Vietnam was occupied by the French, a musician who was secretly working for the French, received permission from the government to build a tower in the middle of Hoan Kiem Lake in honor of Lê Lợi, one of the most famous figures of Vietnamese history and one of its greatest heroes. Legends surrounding his life involving the sword, Thuận Thiên and Hoan Kiem turtle are associated with Hoan Kiem Lake and the island. The musician planned to secretly bury his father within the tower. Residents of the city discovered his plans and removed his father's body from the structure. The three-story tower was still completed and was originally named Ba Ba Kim Tower. In 1890, the French erected a miniature Statue of Liberty on top of the tower. In 1945, after French control was overthrown, the Vietnamese government had the statue removed.[2]

The tower is called Thap Rua (Turtle Tower) The original tower was built in the 1400's for the comfort of the king while he fished. The Tower disappeared in 17th or 18th century. In 1886 a new tower was built and was in honour of Le Loi, a Vietnamese hero. It was originally called Ba Ba Kim Tower. The tower was constructed during French occupation and in 1890 the French erected a miniature Statue of Liberty on top. After the French were kicked out the statue was removed. There you go haha.

If anybody is interested...... Café Giảng is one of the most famous traditional coffee shops in Hanoi, located on the east side of the Old Quarter. Opened since 1946, the café was named after its founder Mr. Nguyễn Giảng - a bartender at a colonial hotel in the French Quarter. Tucked away behind a small lane, through what looks like someone’s house and could be easily missed, on the bustle of Nguyen Huu Huan Street. This hidden gem draws endless lines of locals and tourists to taste the original “cà phê trứng”, or egg coffee. when the resistance against the French kicked off the first Indochina War in the late 1946, his father had no choice but to relinquish his job at Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi Hotel and opened a café at home. To enjoy the strong and bitter French-press Robusta coffee, both coffee makers and local drinkers in Vietnam rely on a steady stream of sweeten condensed milk to balance it out - the trick that make Vietnamese coffee today. But what happens when the milk runs out? Shortly after opening his own café, Giảng faced the question when a milk shortage was caused by the war. With a clever hack whisking in egg yolk as a much-needed substitute for dairy product, surprisingly, he created a frothy cup of egg coffee resembling a liquefied tiramisu.

Hey, we are enjoying your videos so much and especially Vietnam, we went a few years ago and planning another trip in 2023. WRT the little structure on the lake I googled and it says the island was first used as a fishing site. In the 1400s, under Lê Thánh Tông a tower was erected to improve the comfort of the king's fishing 😊

Recipes for banh mi have changed over the years, personally I miss the “original” one, which has butter, paté, ham, fresh cucumber & fried shallot etc… inside :) It’s harder & harder to find that in Hanoi nowadays. Anw, enjoy our food, coffee… & don’t forget to taste our different exotic fruits & drinks, they are refreshing !!!

Oh boy! You guys really had an enjoyable time in Hanoi. I’m glad you guys had a great time there. You guys should try these 3 famous dishes which were originated from Hanoi as wel. I last time had them at the restaurant near by the Sword Lake 10 years ago. I don’t remember the name of the restaurant. But there are many good restaurants in Hanoi which have these dishes. Have fun 🤩 1. Cha ca thang long (bake fillet fish) 2. Bun Rieu (crab vermicelli soup) 3. Banh cuon Tay Ho (fresh steam rolls)

One thing you can be sure that no matter how much vietnamese food you eat in Vietnam, you'll never gain weight. 3 reasons: First, low fat food, less cheese, butter, but lots of veggies. 2nd -hot humid weather you sweat a lot, thus lose weight. 3rd- you physically walk by foot to most places, lots of outdoors activities local shops, bars, street foods, millions things to be outdoors physically days and nights. So Vietnam is the BEST PLACE ON EARTH for losing weight or eating a lot without worrying about being fat. Healthy overall!

But I've watched a few videos touting the glories of this unusual drink, and yours has finally convinced me to try it when I get to Viet Nam this fall. And that bún chả looks amazing! I'll have to get up to Hà Nội for that as well. I hope you plan to stay there for a bit so we can see a lot more. Keep 'em coming!

When you eat Bun Cha, the local told me that you must slurp and every bite is a mouthful of food, not just a bit. It will enhance your enjoyment. You MUST try Chả Cá Lã Vọng. People say it is one of the best, if not the best in Ha Noi. Ask the hotel clerk, they probably know which one is the best. I only noticed now that you didn't go to Hoi An. How could you possibly miss it? Save it for the next trip then.
