Well kids, I wish you luck. Enjoy every day. Some days are "gooder" than others. I lived in Alaska for 51 years, Ketchikan to Fairbanks and in between. 19 years off grid. When you can afford it have a well put in as that will make things so much easier. For health reasons I had to move out of state, but I will always miss parts of Alaska. I do Not miss 40 below and the mosquitoes!! When you make a mistake, step back a few feet, look it over, laugh about it, and carry on!! Thanks for the videos. I did subscribe, and eventually maybe you can get monitized. Stay as safe as possible, name the mama moose. Once she finds out it's safe to be in your area she will return. And, , ,they love pumpkins!!! Thanks for the videos, I am, retired ole Ron.

Hi, you talking about get some warm air in to the other rooms from the top of the rooms. Hot air goes up, better to get the outlet in the rooms come to the bottom so you got a better circulation of the air in the rooms. Bec you did not make the things how be needing before you put the floor on i suggest that you can have a inlet from upper part of the stove room (warmer air) and have a pipe in the wall to the rooms and use a small fan to let the air in to the bottom of the rooms. I did that and put the outlet down to the basement and it works fine. The hot air from stove room goes to the basement and them come up again throw the stairs in another room so we got a good circulation in the hole house. There are some nice fans that you use in bathrooms how a silent, they can be set for timer, moisture or speed and can control with a App in your phone. At least we use them in Sweden. Install one at the top of the living room , outside every room so you can control temp in every room. i just thinking that the fan normal sucking air so the fan should be on the outlet inside the room but maybe some one can turn the motor in the fan so it push instead if you want the fan in the living room

Here is a tip for you for next winter. Buy two kitchen dish towels. Lay one flat, fold into thirds (so it looks like an envelope.). Sew the short sides. Now you have a perfect size towel cozy to hold a typical “Nalgene” brand water bottle. Nalgene bottles can hold boiling water with no damage to them. Boil water, put it in your dish towel bag, and keep yourself warm all night long! One of our houses would get down to 30 degrees inside in we did not keep the fire going all night. With a couple blankets and a boiling Nalgene we always slept very comfortably. I highly recommend this! Don’t take my word on it, Google boiling water Nalgene bottle. It is a great camping hack as well.

We’ll definitely keep it mind. Luckily we got the wood burner sorted out and it’s actually been keeping the house so warm we often have to crack a window open and sleep with a fan on. We do plan on doing some beach camping and even during the summer the nights get chilly so maybe we’ll boil a pot of water over the campfire and give your trick a try. Thanks 😊

It’s our full time home but we had to leave in October to help family after a house fire in TN. We just got back 2/4/24. We do have a plow on the SxS and that will be fine for keeping it clear normally but being gone the first half of winter let the snow build up too much for even regular truck plows to clear it. They keep getting stuck. Gonna need a loader or just have to wait until Spring.
@elizabethmckenzie6977

Now the ladder on the wood stove, come on an accident about to happen, surely you are building a house and have a taller ladder, anyone would have known that the snow would knock out the chimney and when first installing it that was essential , that’s ok you have your tv so you can be entertained while you recover. Living in Alaska is not a game.

Ok. I am 2 minutes into the video and have to respond. You need to start thinking ahead. Get an extra key and keep it at the house. Everyone should do this simple thing, all part of surviving and being independent. Your in Alaska, put on your big boy pants.
@ouralaskahomestead
@ouralaskahomestead 5 ай бұрын
Being independent? If you watch the entire video you will see we made it into the house without assistance from anyone. Yes we should have an extra key, thought we did. We gave it to our son to hold on to case of emergency. We hadn’t met up with him to get it yet. The house key that was on this key ring must have been for our old place. Simple mistake. We all make them.

I just hope you are not risking yourself for content. You really have to think of how you would get to help if you fell off the ladder that is balancing on your wood stove. Especially in remote areas. plus you can barely walk out to your vehicle in the deep snow let alone if you are injured badly.
@ouralaskahomestead
@ouralaskahomestead 5 ай бұрын
It’s definitely not for content we make very little $ from KZfaq. Certainly not enough to pay even an urgent care bill let alone an ER visit. No, this is Craig doing boy stuff, thinking he’s still 25. I wasn’t even home to take him to the emergency room if he had fallen. Still can’t get the Jeep out so he’d have been laying there with a broken neck until I got off work at 7pm. Its a prime example of why women live longer than men 😂
