First Day of Bean Harvest in Iowa! Wasn't sure if the beans were going to be ready or not.... but figured out they're definitely ready. Plenty Dry! We're fighting a lot of green stems still, so slow running. There will be a lot more vids coming throughout Harvest! #harvest22

Just a peice of advice, when your pulling hoses like that out of tubes like that. It helps if you tape a peice of wire to the end of the hose that your pulling through the tube so it's not a pain to try and snake the new one back in there freely

Good first day guys.. Our draper head eliminated almost all header loss. The expected loss is around 2-3 bu. with the auger heads.. keep on farming and God Bless

Grant you are a breath of fresh air, watching someone work their way through starting grain farming by reading operators manuals and researching 'how too'. Im finding it so hard after 25 years farming, listening to bosses who have never actually read operators manuals, been so arrogant that they disregard evolution and think granddads diary is a better guide. Thanks so much you are restoring my faith in farming you tubers.

When you harvest beans, especially very dry, you want to bring your reel up and back. The fingers should just tickle the top enough to lay them on the header. Reel speed is important too. If its too low or too fast it just shells them out before the stems get cut. Just a tip!

If you drag trash or something under the head, there is a knob closest to the steering wheel and it will pick up the head without ruining the beans

Just a few tips and tricks on setting the combine. 1 if you have pods in the grain tank, turn ur rotor speed down a little and or you could adjust your vanes as well which will make your crop stay in the rotor longer 2. The majority of the beans you see on ground could be header loss. Make sure your real ain't to far down into the beans.

Thanks Grant and Spence! It's probably too late by now, but I wonder if a pressure tester that auto parts stores loan out for radiator checks could be adapted with a fitting to tell for sure which hose is leaking. Also personally, on a hitch, I'd have an insured welder do it or check it, so liability in case of a road accident doesn't fall back on you guys. Just my cautious side. Thanks for sharing! Great videos! Looking forward to the next one!

Hey guys great video. On our farm had to pull hoses on our head also. Wouldn't be a bad idea to tie a string on hose before you pull it out that way you can pull new hose in with ease.

Grant!!! U really should set up ur real on ur header to match the speed of the combine. We did it will ours and it saves a lot of time and money like if ur moving slow ur real is moving at the same speed at all times and if ur real is moving faster than the machine it is beating the plant around and knocking off pods and ur lossing yeild and money. So I really suggest doing that. Our real speed changes with the speed of the combine so u speed up ur real speeds up and if u slow down ur real slows down.

Good work fella! Tip from experience, next time you pull a hose that’s fed through a tight area like that tie a rope to the end your pulling out, that way you can tie the end of the new hose to the rope and pull it back through

You guys are doing great umm one thing I have noticed is when the beans are standing good no need to run the real so low I would run it higher you will have way less header loss

You should get a @10k bu dryer bin. Or consider a smaller one. I have a neighbor with early beans, leaves his corn till late. So he borrows a box, has me bring my grain cart so weekends he can keep going. There are many under 10k used bins going cheap. While a swing hopper is nice. A 8x51 can run with 7.5 hp single phase to fill bin, empty bin. I finally bought swing tongue. I kinda wish I had not. Not really much easier then strait auger, tractor tied up, you can’t line up by hand…. Wish I never bought it.

When pulling hose thru channel. Tie a twine, lite rope. That makes it easier to pull back fixed hose. That’s a short run, should be ok. If not a tile flag. Stick thru, duct tape hose, pull back.

try running the bean header wheel thing with as little speed as possible, and also with the least contact with the crop as possible to improve the header loss some crops u can get away with moving it entirely out the way

Why would you pull your crops off early? Seems like it won't take you that long to harvest, so you might as well let everything dry out in the field. What are your plans for cover crops this fall? Should have time to put something down.
