It's amazing to have this supermarket basically a stone's throw from the North Pole. I used to live north of the Arctic Circle - about twice as far from the North Pole as Svalbard. That extra 1300 km really puts things in perspective - Svalbard is truly at the doorstep of the Pole. And the scenery - especially the northern lights - are simply magnificent.

What people often forget is that in the Nordic countries (excluding Norway) middle class income is around 4k usd a month (before taxes, after taxes below 3k) so 1200 to 1400 usd a month on food is a considerable amount. Even with two middle class incomes. Now we don’t know what Cecilia makes so but up to 1400 a month is a lot for just 2 people. Imagine what bigger families have to spend.

I just went grocery shopping this weekend and complained about paying $4.50 for 5 avocados. Our grocery bill was $172.00 and we will shop one more time just before Thanksgiving. We spend roughly $400.00 - $500.00 a month in groceries for the 2 of us. I shop the sells, buy close to expiration date as well. Love going shopping with y'all.

Same here, usually it gets pitch black at 5pm already here. I usually get home at 4pm from school so I tend to be lazy since it gets dark that quick. I'd love it to be dark for a couple of months but I'd just lay and do nothing the entire time.

I just came back from Svalbard and your video is very relatable now! I heard of Svalbard when I was little, reading "His Dark Materials", but never really considered visiting. I only considered visiting after watching your videos I think! Longyearbyen/Svalbard was beautiful. I had to keep reminding myself where I was in the world, it was so unreal and dramatic. We even managed to see the northern lights before the weather turned more snowy. My friends and I all got sick on our last day, the same day you said you were sick at the beginning of the video! :D There was so much more we would have loved to do in Longyearbyen, we will have to come back - maybe we can experience Spring/Summer next time.
