The new Fisker Ocean will start from under £36,000 in the UK. Which is not a lot of money, by modern standards, for a mid-size electric SUV.
Now, the one you see in these moving pictures, reviewed by Matt Saunders, will cost more than that - it's the Extreme variant at £60,880. But still, this is a new range of cars that starts with what looks like a great value derivative.
The Fisker Ocean Extreme has two motors, with 556bhp and 543lb ft in total, can go from 0-62mph in 3.9sec and onto a 128mph top speed. It has a 106kWh usable battery, with a 440 miles WLTP combined range.
Find out what we think about it here. And visit the Autocar website at www.autocar.co.uk for more news and reviews.

I feel the journalist failed in many ways to offer us a real insight into this car. He suggested several things he found worth mentioning, but never actually showed us. The funny reversing noise for one. He didn't show interior space, rear seat and boot accommodation. Overall, it left me looking for other KZfaq presenters, to show me what Autocar failed to show.

@@Adam.Piper62 I agree with @chryschrysostomou5392's post. It wouldn't have been difficult to show us the rear seat leg room at the very least as that is one of the most important aspects of any new car I would look at buying. Also no mention of warranty.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this very chill, informative, review of a vehicle that continues to intrigue me. I left the car business a couple of years ago (my former company has a fleet of enclosed trucks - I sold truck space and managed projects for the likes of Ferrari, Lotus, Rivian etc moving prototypes for weather testing, car shows etc, as well as handling film shoots) One of my clients was Karma (Chinese company that bought Fisker - I moved client units and handle several nationwide tours for their SC1 and Pininfarina models. I could tell you some stories of that adventure). You did Fisker a solid by calling them a new company. =) I hunted Fisker (with the Ocean) for several years trying to get their show / press business but was too early. The Fisker Karma was ahead of its time and I always felt that, despite its flaws, Fisker took a beating with the bankruptcy. Hats off to him for persevering. I hope that this second bite of the cherry is a success. Thank you for the content, kind sir.
@bzdtemp
@bzdtemp 11 ай бұрын
Agree on the Karma, it was ahead of its time and perhaps caused by its name, that project was hit by a lot of bad luck ie. a hurricane destroying a lot of cars just arrived in the US from production in Europe, US politicians making their financing a political issue and their battery supplier going out of business. The Fisker company that brings the Ocean is actually a new company, as in the old company haven been taken over by that Chinese one except for Henrik Fisker keeping his name which has then been used in the new company. If I recall correctly some big figures from the traditional car industry has money in the new Fisker company, plus Magna-Steyer that does the production so far also has a chunk of the shares.
@patrickdgarez86
@patrickdgarez86 11 ай бұрын
@@bzdtemp I completely forgot about the hurricane. One thing after another for the poor guy. The Magna connection is a solid one. I tried to hit them as well but they wouldn't give me the time of day. =) He has changed things up. In difference to the Karma, which was sold as a luxury ride, the Ocean is aiming for the "people's car" market, which is a smart play. Volume.

Agreed! This car is such a dud that Matt Saunders had very little to say; he certainly failed to find the myriad of problems and issues that other KZfaq reviewers have found. For example, he parroted Fiskers' claim of 1,550 km of extra range from the roof mounted solar panels. It's said that the solar panels ARE NOT even connected to the battery. Solar electricity is fed directly to the driving motors (or presumably to ground if the car is not moving). This has to be one of Autocar's worst reviews, it makes me worry of any other reviews Mr Saunders does (or has done).

Great EV, for sure, but you do need to be able to charge at home! Public rapid chargers cost 10 times as much. I currently pay 7.5p per kwh, whereas a rapid charger will cost in excess of 75p per kwh. So that larger 113kwh battery version will cost £84 to charge using a public rapid charger vs £8.40 at home. The exteneded range version of the MG4 will still be king for value vs range. It'll have a 77kwh pack and 325 miles range costing £36,495. I would still prefer the Ocean though lol 😂 what a beast

Lots of missing information unfortunately. E.g.Who will you take it to if it needs service in the UK? The option packages on the Fisker are hugely expensive. If you want a basic feature like rain sensing wipers that’s a £5K package. Software on early Ocean One users seems to be a bit “laggy” and lots not finished yet. As VW have ably demonstrated getting the software right is difficult and a risk to buyers that it will take years. Since Fisker couldn’t answer my questions whilst wanting a large non returnable deposit for an unfinished car I cancelled my order. Shame it’s the right idea.

A wonderful review and a review with so many pertinent points/facts, the Fisker Ocean suggests it is well suited to the move for families from ICE vehicles to EV. Kudos to the bright minds at Fisker and thank you Autocar for showing leadership around how the role of a car will transition. There will be naysayers, but I'd suggest a quick search of Moose test failures, Ford Ka etc, you know what I mean, forging to find a new way forward has issues. The opportunity to take great road trips where the focus is seeing, experiencing and remembering great journeys years after taking them will live on. Thanks Fisker,and thanks Autocar for demonstrating those points.

Say this an awful lot on socials, KZfaq and online but I really wish there were more real world based car performance reviews. Of course they don’t or wouldn’t suit every category of car out there but for example someone thinking of swapping from say a BMW 530d to an M3 no reviewer on KZfaq really gives you that level of performance based review that it makes you think ‘right I’m off to the dealership’. 0-60s, demonstrated launch control, 1/4 miles, drag races with very similar cars, footage of a car on the road with seemingly nothing else there. They aren’t really what people want to see when deciding on a road car. They’re fun don’t get me wrong. I love to see drag races but everyone does them and they’re not really ‘real world’ demonstrations. In the real world you want to know if a car can comfortably overtake on a backroad with a 2-3 car backup in front of you, whether you can put your foot down on the motorway when John in his 58 reg A6 gets right up your arse and you don’t particularly want to have to shift across, just how much you can embarrass the local chavs in their Mountune Fiest ST when they try and go past you on a twisty road. Situations like those are what it would be really fun and good to see from a car review on KZfaq. Or even just drag race something like an RS3 against a bunch of cars you’re likely to see ‘road wankers’ driving that think they’re king eg 56 reg 320d, any Fiesta ST, 58 reg Range Rover Sports, Jaguar XF…… etc. if you’re thinking about splashing £60-70k+ on something, having a reviewer on KZfaq give you a bit of ‘feel good’ about higher performance road cars by demonstrating more real world scenarios it would go down a treat with a lot of folks on KZfaq imo.

Solar panels on cars are generally used for augmenting things like heating and cooling. As a resident of Southern California I can categorically state that ‘California mode’ is actually all windows closed, doors locked and AC on full, at least in summer. Also all the Volkswagen/ Audi (VAG )vehicles I’ve owned had the same window function, so that dates back about twenty years at least.

Tesla has shown these prices mean nothing if production levels are mediocre. When reviewers do not communicate this reality in their reviews, they come off as spokespersons for the manufacturer. Tesla has the manufacturing capacity and can back it up with available vehicles.

I think I’d put the cheapest of the longer range versions on my shortlist, at around £50k. That kind of price for 400 miles is, like VW’s new ID7, something I could work with!

when you say sub 40k, you mean at some unspecified point in time in the future while right now the price is double?

Solar panels have never been heavy, especially in the context of a car. Whoever said that is smoking something very strong.

This car review is so chill that it felt like I was in a conversation with a friend and I was listening to his opinion while we discussed about this new Fisker EV. I like it though, perhaps because it's not the first point of contact (review) otherwise I might have found it boring. Good job anyways. 👍

Solar panel will maintain the battery/batteries if the car sits for too long. Security systems and cold weather will kill batteries.

"Waiting for an hour to fill a battery" for the LAST TIME: you DO NOT spend an hour rapid charging ANY modern EV. It doesn't happen. You put in enough to get home. None of my last half dozen rapid charge stops have lasted more than 9 minutes. Why? Because all I needed was a 20 mile buffer to get me to my house,... Where I have a charger. You don't fill these things when you're out and about. You fill them while you're asleep at home.

For the LAST TIME: Not all trips are exactly 110% your car’s range. Some people have to drive longer some times
@timaustin2000

@@grigorioschristodoulou5229and it still wouldn't take an hour. Because your destination, if you've planned properly, will have a charger. And you wouldn't ever charge it to full. An 80% charge is fine for road trips, you're not going to be at 0% when you reach your charger and a modern electric car is likely to take a 150Kw charge - this one certainly does. If you're there more than 25 minutes then something is wrong.

Fast chargers degrade car range much faster. They tested that 100km less range in car after 200000km and fast charging compared to slow charging at home.

Such a shame that they're going to bust again before they can sell many of these, because from the consumer perspective it seems like a good deal. Given the importance of software updates to BEVs, I'd hesitate to buy one though until Fisker shows a bit of staying power. To just explain my thinking, the long range vehicle has 113kWh gross pack. That is absolutely enormous for the segment and is going to cost a fortune (there's a reason why competitor vehicles are all in the 75-85kWh sort of range). I just don't see how they can put a pack that size (especially as a new manufacturer with relatively low volume) in a car that price without massively negative margins (just look at Ford's margins on the Mach E, which has a pack about 2/3 the size and costs more). Having to compete with Tesla, which is obviously already at scale, is making life so hard for start ups like Fisker.

Agreed, tesla has more range with 77 kwhbattery this is enormous and shows its not efficient, unfortunately, but we'll see he may survive,

@@PhatLe-jj2ng I mean, Henrik also said that Fisker Automotive was going to be profitable and sell 15k cars a year back in 2010 and they went bankrupt 3 years later. Obviously I can wait for the financial reports, but anyone with a functioning brain knows that even if Fisker had a superior product with great cost control, they would have negative margins for quite some time, it's just the nature of scaling a business. Depending on how you account, you can show a positive gross automotive margin, but still go bankrupt because of the cost of plant and machinery and other operating expenses, which tend to be relatively large vs revenues for start up car businesses who need to invest to grow. Let's see, but I think Fisker has a very small chance of still being in business by 2030. It's possible they survive, but extremely unlikely.

It's the name Fisker, it's awful. I don't understand why people are so self righteous, & stupid nowadays, they're styling like some Chinese makers is fantastic- but like some Chinese brand names it sounds bloody awful Fisker- you don't have to give something a pass just because it's there, and put infront of you, the name is dog dirt. Tesla is a cool name hence stole the march as a brand on the Karma.
