First-Ever Pig Kidney Transplant Patient Dies Nearly 2 Months After Procedure
Richard Slayman, the 62-year-old who made history by receiving the world's first genetically modified pig kidney transplant in March, has died. After undergoing a four-hour procedure, he was discharged from the hospital two weeks later on April 2. Slayman had been living with Type 2 diabetes and hypertension for many years until he received a human kidney transplant in 2018. He was later forced to resume dialysis after the transplanted kidney began to fail. The doctors then opted for a genetically modified pig kidney transplant. However, the hospital that carried out the procedure has said that there was no indication Slayman's sudden passing was due to the transplant. Meanwhile, New Jersey's Lisa Pisano became the first woman to receive a pig organ in April 2024.

I believe they had to manipulate the pig dna to match human. Pigs have similar structures and used In medical labs especially in endoscopy clinics. This has a way to go since the blood of the pig and human need to be medically changed for acceptance.

FYI I donated my kidney altruisticly this past year and my blood was matched to my recipient but other factors came into play like antibodies, past infections, blood type is matched but many other factors and intensive testing went into me being accepted before I got the ok.

A pig's kidney isn't supposed to kill you if there is a rejection. If there is a kidney rejection, your body rejects the kidney and only the kidney dies. It actually slowly deteriorates. Kidney rejection is not like a heart. The question is what exactly killed him? We definitely know he was diabetic and had high blood pressure. My interpretation is that his blood sugar could have crossed the line to extreme levels. Another person had a pig kidney transplant with a hearth pump. So we just have to wait and see.

Iran does not have problem with wait list of people, waiting for organs, Iran has wait list of donors, because donors get money and health insurance for donated organ. It is how it supposed to be.

There are problems with the program in Iran. The upper class or wealthy are able to get the donation vs those that can’t afford to pay. The best solution is to become a living donor through the voucher program. That’s what I did and my donation saved a life and hopefully my friend who has the voucher will also be able to get a kidney. The voucher program creates a cascade effect, it only takes one.

My question is was he still being closely monitored? Did he have symptoms of kidney failure prior to his passing etc. Was GFR checked and routine blood work

@@anitha2053 My simple answer is because the Bible which is God’s Word says it’s Unclean. That is enough for me. Science will back me up as well just incase you want to learn about trichinosis and the worms that’s incurable that you get from eating swines flesh. And speaking of the last day that we live in, not only is swine unclean, listen to what will happen to those eating it when Jesus comes - Isaiah 66:15-17 “For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many. They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.”

Pigs is one of the most toxic animal indeed, because pig doesn't sweat, and animal which doesn't sweat has all the toxins in its body which are like poison, so it is also a reason a lot of people don't eat pig meat or pork and using pigs kidney on human is beyond craziness
