Experts say that the global population crisis is a "calamity in the making". The global fertility rate stands at 2.1, which is below the 2.2 replacement rate. Fertility is dropping for women across all levels of education and income. It is happening across nations like America, France, UK, China, Japan, South Korea, India, Taiwan, and many others. By end of this century, most nations will see dramatic drop in population, according to reports. Countries are paying a big economic price for declining populations. This is because declining population means slower economic growth. This will have far reaching implications on superpowers like China, Russia and the U.S. A smaller population can diminish global clout of such countries. Question remains, why have countries not been able to fix the population crisis? Why are birth rates declining? Palki Sharma tells you.

48 years young child free woman here and I’m sooooo grateful to my younger self for protecting my freedom and autonomy. My life is so much better in quality. And it’s a very full life as well. I have a garden and am able to give away fruit and veggies. And I’m an artist. I have a legacy, community, more income, social life, etc. Only have kids if you really truly want them and can provide for them! It’s not worth it. The people telling you to breed are going to throw their hands up if you struggle. “Well you should’ve kept your legs closed!” There’s so much more to life than producing soldiers and consumers for the system.

World is big enough for even a larger population actually. We can accomodate whole globe's population in a single state if we do it properly. But we need quality over quantity. And capitalism has reduced quality of living for everyone. Those who are not working hard are poor, stressed due to less money and those who are rich are working too hard, stressed due to too much work. Both cannot have children.

Here's why: Imagine there are 20 glasses of water on a table with 5 people around it. Each person would show a lot of empathy and care towards each other, asking if they'd like a glass of water. Now, imagine the scenario reversed. There are 20 people seated, and only 5 glasses of water are on the table. Here, they might fight, even kill each other, to have that glass of water. This highlights the concern that World War III could happen over the fight for the greatest resource of all time: water. Moral of the story - let the population decline.

The process of shrinking population makes your group vulnerable to groups that are expanding. The members of the group competing for limited and shrinking resources (because they aren’t resources just sitting there - someone needs to make them available) see you as a problem and not one of their own. That’s what happened to the extinct cultures and even the Neanderthals and other hominids whose few remaining members hide from us and we destroy whenever we can. The two species in an ecosystem that fight each other the hardest are the most similar. They are struggling for the same niche. We are the same species but we don’t see it that way so it doesn’t matter. (There’s a fair amount of Neanderthal DNA in humans.) The demographic transition has been known to geographers for tens of years. human populations eventually decline to homeostasis. It’s the height of arrogance not to care about this personally because it’s the only reason you are here. Your ancestors strove. Now, if you really identify with the whole Humans family, have a look at Farmers. They are good and in sync with nature. We are nature, nor are we out of it. (25 points if you get that allusion.)

You're wrong. The ratio of death rate to birth rate is 1:2.39 which will likely drop to 1:1.34 in the next 26 years. This is bad for us because among the people living, there are old and very young people who aren't capable of working. If new babies are not born to replace the older generation, that's gonna be a problem

@@hkonhelgesennot really, Think in macro terms . Lesser people means low demand and low demand which will lead to shut down and layoffs. Hence, recession.. Only good way is , to let it happen in a very subtle manner over an extent of time where ai can do lower jobs and people can go for higher one. So ai can fill the low supply of labour and those who work are actually earning more making it more and keeping demand up .

I see this as an absolute win. Machines have increased production. Fewer people = Less competition, More resources per person. That's why overpopulation is the problems, and government acknowledged that. But Now they are realizing that this will hurt the rich, who vastly benefit from overpopulation by having cheap labors. There are more people alive on the face of planet Earth today than have existed in all prior history. A population decline would not be a crisis, economic nor otherwise. Economics is basically the science of the creation and distribution of resources to people. More people require more resources. Automation allows us to produce goods at unprecedented levels. Fewer people with more production leads to a better future.

True. Equal paternal and maternal leaves is what we need. In the 1st year of child's life, mother should take leave. In the 2nd year, father should take leave. In the 3rd year, preschools can take care of children during the day. And retired grandparents should also help with childcare

The culture itself has promoted to not to have kids it was made a case of social burden and stigma. The future is babies born from laboratories with no physical attachment to their mother and father. 😂 Palki Sharma is obsessed with China and it's embarrassing. China is moving away from depending on factory workers. China installs more automatic machines in their factories than half the entire world. In some factories in China only few people are employed because almost everything is done by machines. 🤣 China thinks far ahead of every other country. By the time China's population declines below 1 billion they will the country would have majority of it's factories running 24/7 because of automatic machines. No other country would be able to compete with China. 😂
