Due to very difficult CNC procedures...(It takes at least 3 times longer to CNC machine compared to conventional motor bell with real 7075-T6 aero grade duralium. It's also hard to make the props the right pitch for each blade due to small diameter area (Top of motor bell). Actually the motors are not overpriced compared to manufacturing cost.

@@KAREAREADRONES It'd be relatively easy to take a bell housing blank with no vent holes and put it on a hydraulic press to stamp in the holes and put a fold on the notch outs for integrated cooling at the same time. Difficulty depends on the manufacturing process and materials. (CNC may not always be the answer for making things like this in bulk.)

Hacker motors and the other high-end german brands have that, plus hand-wound stators with thick wires... and cost 10-15 times more than the hobbyking-own motors (them standing at the lowest step of prices)

I would think it would take more work (amps) to spin a motor bell with this design. So the question is what’s more efficient, higher amps with a turbine bell design, or a little bit higher kv motor that would make more thrust? You should put Your quad on a scale and go full throttle with no props to see if they are actually producing thrust. I would think the thrust would be almost nothing because the air would have to be forced through the motor windings. They maybe great for cooling though.
@MaxBeamer
@MaxBeamer 4 жыл бұрын
its very little thrust, a few grams per motor. Good point about the amp draw tho I didn't really think of that.

Fins on a motor do not create thrust, these offer some cooling to the motor bell but that is about all they do, easy way to test is stick one on a scale and apply power. The windings look nice .

I fly the T-Motor F80Pros 2200Kv motors on 6s & on my 780gram 5” GRL Titanium Pro2 frame. I love these motors they have so much power and they handle great In proximity that’s usually what I do is proximity freestyle and race. It’s hard to find a good durable motor that can handle both racing and proximity freestyle flying all in one. I never dial them down either, I use up all their power. Being able to fly into a bando with motors these fast can be hard to tame for some people, but not with these, I can fly through pipes at low speeds and then to be able to keep up with sports cars or street bikes for longer periods of time, they’re more then capable of keeping up with just about anything .... These are 100% my all purpose motors at the moment

There are a few motors in the past that have tried to do something similar.....Would you mind showing a closer up image or video of the flutes in the bell top? I'm specifically looking to see if the leading edge of those blades/flutes are actually sloped to pull in air or if they're in fact just flat like they seem to be and the trailing edge is sloped.

I know you are thinking that has nothing to do with electric motors on a quad. The same aerodynamic rules apply. Airflow always takes the path of least resistance. If the openings between the windings were larger, the fins would be more effective. The bottom of the bell is just like every other motor. only so much air can get through. Supa FPV the problem with the original TOA is even tho the bell is made from a harder aluminum the airgap is extremely small (which is good for power and efficiency) but it’s not so good for durability bc a small ding can cause the bell to rub on the stator. That being said I think the OG TOA might still be a bit more durable in your everyday crashes just bc of the better bearing and harder bell material while I think the lites are more capable of handling a catastrophic crash since they have a wider gap and can be dented deeper... if that makes any sense. Oh and also, the turbine motor is more durable than both of them 😜

@@MaxBeamer Very interesting. Thanks man I really appreciate the input, this really narrows it down to either the turbines, Lite, or the RCinpower smoox which I do believe is made with the 7075 alloy the original TOA is made of. You've got my sub for sure, looking forward to more kick ass videos!

"I lowered the KV to 1690" ...that's not how KV works man, you can only limit max. throttle - throttle input value

@MaxBeamer 4 жыл бұрын
you can limit your esc ouput voltage to effectively change the virtual kv of the motor, totally different than max throttle limit I made a whole video on it when it came out in BF here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zr5nqrSrtb2mgok.html

I think the amount of drag is negligible esp compared to the drag from the props. So far it has about the same flight time and amp draw as my other motors.

did it actually work? I did some research before making the video and found quite a few companies have tried to make the equivalent of some sort of fin on the bell, even Emax had something similar. From what I found though, none of them actually scooped air and most of the "fins" were actually flat underneath.. if I remember correctly the ldpower motors were one of the curved top flat bottom type deal, could be wrong tho since those were probably before my time haha
@SKIDOOSH
@SKIDOOSH 4 жыл бұрын
@@MaxBeamer due to the thrust vector of props it is very limited on how much air is available near the hub for any fins to use. They may help a bit with cooling and they do make a ool sound. You can see the LDpower on miniquadtestbench page.

yeh that was I guess where it all started although those motors actually drew air from the bottom up and didn't do a very good job of it either, these draw air from the top down cooling the windings even more and creating a tiny amount of positive thrust.
@MatthewTaylor3

This quad should have been placed on a scale with the propellers removed, then the quad armed and moved to max RPM so I can see how much thrust is produced. I feel the turbines are just a hoax for thrust, but useful for keeping the coils cool

Thanks
@MaxBeamer
@MaxBeamer 3 жыл бұрын
What does it sound like?? The normal cause of not being able to lower filters is some sort of vibration/oscillation getting to the FC and if the motors are brand new I’d check things like loose mounting/ cracks in the frame etc

The thing that is bad in my opinion is the durability might be weird depending on where you hit the bell. then you have to have CCW and CW motors which would get annoying. Also the price. And truly how much cooling is this really making considering you have a 5” prop and are moving at a constant rate of speed. I guess time will tell good video bro🤟🏽 they should make a 1700kv to shave that extra little bit of weight.
