First flight in my Team Minimax 1100R.

Taking up my new to me minimax for the first time. I was just going to go around the pattern. Instead of turning right for finale, I turned left to extend my flight just for a couple minutes longer.

That Max seems very smooth. The Half VW seems quite sufficient for it too. Keep it comin' Love the vids.

What is your fuel burn like. Looking into a 103 and just wondering how long you can stay up with 5 gal of fuel

Hey Darrell, are you still flying your Max? I’m interested to learn what your weights came out to and what kind of performance you’re seeing. I’m going to pick up my 45hp dual ignition in the next couple weeks. Not sure if you’ve seen my build here on KZfaq but I’m also building an 1100. I enjoy your videos!

Love u r plane bro. Would it be difficult to put starter on the engine. I've seen many of these with prop start. Is there a reason for this or just a preference? Only ask cause I'm building mine now.

Michael Harding plenty of people put starters on them. I just did not think it was necessary. Plus saved some weight. Good luck with your build!

If it’s a half vw engine the crank and the rear 2 cylinders are cut off to save on weight.. also the 30lb flywheel is also removed when it’s cut in half.. I’ve seen 1 design where this guy machined a ring gear that bolts behind the prop and has a small electric starter but that’s about 5lbs added weight. For an ultralight that’s pretty significant.. especially if you’re trying to stay part 103 legal

easiest way to do that would be the hirth f33, as its available with elec start and only 45lbs total with everything but a fuel tank. These half VW engines are 85+ lbs in any configuration

How does the aircraft still make part 103 weight with the half VW

What was your empty weight with the VW? Did it make the 254lbs?

Darrell, what hp is your 1/2vw, and if you don’t mind me asking the empty weight of your plane and your weight?

It was 28hp. (Not enough, Awful climb rate.) I never weighed it myself. But I was told it made weight and sent it.

And how much did you weigh, I’d you don’t mind me asking. Trying to figure out if 37hp will be enough for mine.

Your air speed seems a little high and bouncing. Do you have a static line to you air speed and Alt as per plans?

Marty Biff My Pitot Tube is too far inward towards the Fuselage and gets some propwash. It's off by about 20.

Dandy this is a great planes 1/2 VW. 2 cylinders (4stroke) with horsepower being in the low 30's.

Darrell Massengale is it still considered an ultralight? I’m really interested in this and I have some flight experience but I’m not interested in spending thousands and thousands for my license.

Isolate the camera from the vibration of the plane and a lot of that jello will go away. Also, there are settings in your go pro that you can change, like frame rate, etc and that can also help.

Why need to see below? I want to be able to see ahead and down, not below. and a high wing blocks visibility into turn. way worse than not seeing below the aircraft which is irrelevant. can get a good view of surrounding terrain from cockpit position, just not below.

Sir, I had a minimax. Loved it, I had a full VW on mine. The 1100r. The r is for rotax so I’m afraid what you have is not an 1100r. But it is a nice plane. Be careful with the 1/2 VW. I flew mine home on 3 cyls a half dozen times. If you only have 2 cyls you’d have been a glider. But very cool plane, just be careful they glide like a rock

Yea I would like to know also. I am in flight school and depending on the traffic pattern published for that airport you may have to make right turns to final. Also I have flown to airports that require right turns to final.

May be an 1100, but not R, R means Rotax Thats a 1/2 vw

LOL R, in this case, = Revised. On the web site, it does not specify Rotax. Designed for 28 HP engine (Ultralight) or 40HP 2-cylinder (E-AB). However, it does say the 1100R can be upgraded to the 1500/1600R at any time

I just purchased a 1300Z Mini-Max. That was a great flight.
