This day of fishing was epic. I got my first nice flounder (fluke) of the year and I wasn't even flounder fishing! Flounder will be moving in the inshore waterways all along the East Coast so get ready because it's about to go off! • How to Catch Flounder ...
Here is the breakdown on the day:
Location: Virginia Beach, Virginia
Water Temp: 60F
Air Temp: high 65F low 42F
Wind: Moderate
Line: 15 lb flouro carbon leader line
1/4 Oz jighead (Gotcha Jighead)
ZMan MinnowZ Creole Croaker with Pro Cure Scent
Technique:
A combination of slow roll retrieve as well as bouncing (jigging) on the bottom. As the flounder and speckled trout and redfish are on the move they are funneling into our inshore fishing areas and they are hungry. They are looking for warm water, a food source, and comfort. Look for any dropp-offs, areas that hold current or underwater structure like an oyster flat, or anything else.

Hi Jeff , Kristy. Just watched your video with Kristy’s toutorial on tying a flounder rig .. I have to say I’m about to target my first flounder and I have many years of fishing from the beach with my 11’ surf rods , my sage fly rods , Renzetti fly vise +++++ ..This has all been retired for my new/last adventure of soft baits , pop ‘n corks . It’s a combination of my other techniques . Today it hit me when Kristy was giving her demo . that this has to have been the best approach that I have viewed.. Something clicked. It was Kristy’s presence ,her articulation, presentation or whatever.. It was great 👍 and thank y’all..for your guidance.ps .Your comments are turned off on your other video!!

You have just taken your show !!! To the next level Jeff.Nicely presented..I’m asking this question because I don’t the answer . I have as yet to catch my first flounder but it seems to me that you could fillet the white side first . Being that there is less meat the dark side has more meat and would support the thin side .. It would be easier to fillet this way . My opinion . Watch y’all think?

Are u only using that rope off the side of the boat for a stringer or is it attached to an anchor too? If so, why do u use the anchor and the trolling motor?

Dwayne Nolan Lynnhaven inlet is sometimes good. You can fish near the bridge on the east side beach. The west side beach has construction but should be open soon ( unless it’s already done). Also, if you drive down the road where the lynnhaven boat ramp is there is a little “nature reserve.” You can park on the side of the road and walk down a path to find a few spots to fish. There are other spots around lynnhaven inlet as well, but those are the only two I’ve ever done. Oh and I’ve heard you can fish the rocks at the entrance of the rudee inlet, but I’ve never done it. I should though! I live up on the peninsula so I don’t fish down there too much. Just bought a kayak though so I can really fish :)

Wow all boards full of” boaters need more boater etiquette “. Rudee is a small fishery with a free launch! When everybody post up hey looks what I caught in Rudee you get crowds on week days. Glad you caught some!

To bad we can't legally keep those flounder in NC. Season supposed to open August15. We love seeing the dead bycatch from the net boats floating by. If NC doesn't get their head out of their posterior ,we will soon start ignoring their unfair laws . Rec fishermen take a back seat to the 500 or so commercial fishermen in NC and their lobbyists, despite the annual millions we put into local economies.

No kidding. Have you seen the numbers that our NC commercial fisheries put out compared to the other states in the region? If you look at speckled trout, flounder and red drum, NC out paces the 2nd place state anywhere from 3 to 5 times as much.

Figures! I had the bright idea to go Sat to Fish at lynnhaven inlet on shore and got nothing but seaweed. Then I see that 1 fish 2 fish goes to rudee the same day and has awesome fishing!! Good for you!!

Another nice video. I got out Tuesday for the first time since SC opened the boat launches back up. Caught my first flounder as well. About the same size in Awendaw. Do you ever deep fry? Love me some uncle Bucks fish batter mix.

Hey Jeff, Another great watch while in quarantine, Im suppose to be in Avon right now chasing down some fish, but it is what it is. So you're using FFP #15 as a main line and a separate leader? What kind of leader is it? Cheers, Chris

We use FFP leader line 20lb test and sometimes other brands that make line lighter than 20lb test like 15lb
