First Gen | 2003 - 2008 Honda Pilot Automatic Transmission Fluid Change | ATF DW1
Haynes repair manual never mentioned any filter to be changed when performing the ATF change, but I did call up my local Honda dealer and found out that the 03 - 04 (02-04 Odyssey) has the screw on filter and the 05 Pilot and Odyssey has the replaceable cartridge one. 06 -08 Pilot didn’t have any but the one internally.

Thanks for the video! After trying a bunch of funnel/hose combinations, I found that a turkey baster fits perfectly snug in the fill hole! My funnel wasn't snug into the turkey baster (squeeze bulb off, of course) so I needed to pour slowly so the fluid would not go above the top of the turkey baster...no problem though. (And the turkey baster with the bulb worked perfectly to fill the VTM-4 rear transaxle oil...which seems otherwise impossible to fill without a pump unless you remove the spare tire...and tough even with the extra space)

You mentioned that the drained fluid level was lower than expected. Not sure when you drained it but in the video, never saw you lower the vehicle or level it during the drain. So you may have had residual fluid in there. How much fluid did you end up putting in? Was it equal to what was removed?

my 2007 Pilot don't have or require a ATF strainer/filter change. The drain bolt has its magnetic element that traps all metal shaving. With that said I can't speak for the older or newer vehicles.

@@JNBTuning Without being a mechanic or a specialist, I can properly indicate any vehicle that has an automatic transmission that must undergo maintenance, change the ATF and filter. In the case of Honda Pilot 2007 it uses the so-called element. They sell it in all the prestigious auto parts stores or dealer. Otherwise you will not need to do the complete maintenance with the filter Honda would not manufacture and sell it. Failure to change the ATF oil-only filter immediately contaminates the new oil. It is only a contribution, the filter takes it below the battery. Greetings

That is not the fill point...the fill point is just to the left (looking in from the front) and down from the brake fluid reservoir...Honda recommends a double flush for a complete drain...pull the plug and it will drain out around 4 quarts....undo the fill plug and pour in the exact amount drained (I use a clear clean plastic milk carton and whatever is the amount marked on the carton is the exact amount I put in of new fluid). ...drive for 500 miles and then do the process again...in that way you get right around 85% all new fluid....Honda does not recommend a back flush.
