There are still many great malls in Jakarta area that you can visit. Kota kasablanka Mall, Plaza Senayan, Pondok Indah Mall 1,2,3, Pacific Place, Lotte Shopping Avenue, Taman Anggrek, Central Park are some of them. Actually, you can get literally anything in Jakarta for retail therapy. If you want to buy bargain stuff or looking for batiks, you can visit thamrin city (the mall behind Grand Indonesia) or Tanah Abang. If you’re looking for electronics you can visit Ambassador Mall/ITC Kuningan. So, yeah you dont need to fly all the way to Malaysia or Singapore, Jakarta has plenty places to go...you can shop till you drop 😬😬😬...literally.

According to my experience, Jakartans spend half of their wages on shopping and hanging out at malls. In my opinion, the lifestyle of the citizens of Jakarta is slightly higher compared to other countries in Southeast Asia. Owning brand name clothes and owning a car is an obligation for urbanites in Jakarta

Saya pernah di Bangkok sebentar, sama aja bang. Pada suka ngemall dan suka beli barang mahal, macet nya juga nauzubillah. Public transport nya lebih mendingan Jakarta ke mana2, terutama masalah bus, jadi banyak pilih punya mobil sendiri.

On public transports in Jakarta, for Transjakarta BRT you can buy the card from vending machines in every Transjakarta bus stop, likewise for MRT you can buy the card from vending machines in every MRT station.

Before covid Plaza Indo and Grand Indonesia always busy and dinamic , a lot of people come expecially weekend come for hang out and go to cinema, if you see cinema in jakarta , you will be like it , because huge and nice

you should go to south Jakarta area lots of nice malls to explore (Senayan city mall, Plaza Senayan, pondok Indah Mall, Cilandak Townsquare, Gandaria City mall, Kota Kasablanka mall, Blok M mall) you can use the MRT system and continue afterwards using grab or Gojek transport app

Please tell me, what were your initial expectation? Ofcourse, areas of improvement are always present but I would say the city is decently lovely. Im amazed how many people overlook Jakarta and outright skip the city from their itinerary. There are plenty to see in Jakarta.

We had very little expectation for Jakarta, we knew it was a developing city but we had no idea how developed it already is. It’s not a city people talk about or visit often, so many foreigners don’t know much about it. Highly underrated 😊

I know why Jakarta is underrated though it has many places offering entertainment.. it's because of the "hell" traffic jam & flood (in rainy season) and really not friendly for pedestrian & bycicle bikers (in some places)

Sebagai orang Jakarta saya jadi pengen ngakak ketika Pak Anis disebut. Sorry to say. Dia cuma bisa mengecat Jakarta tanpa membangun Jakarta dalam arti sebenarnya. Cm bisa membuat monumen yg entah untuk apa fungsinya (cth.hiasan bambu mesum yg akhirnya dibongkar, dan hiasan ban sepeda😑). Jgn lupakan juga jaring didepan wisma atlet untuk menutupi bau dan sampah tak sedap dikali, alih-alih membersihkannya. Menghabiskan banyak anggaran tanpa kejelasan seperti anggaran untuk Formula.E yang hingga detik ini dipertanyakan oleh banyak rakyat. APBD Jakarta banyak terbuang sia-sia tanpa manfaatnya. Dan anda masih berusaha membenarkan kelakuannya padahal anda tahu dengan pasti bahwa hal itu salah.

No, you're wrong. SCBD stands for Sudirman Centre Business District, not Senayan City Business District 😁. Senayan City is the name of a mall in Senayan, across Plaza Senayan

I’m Indonesian living in Stockholm. Can’t compare Jakarta malls and the malls in Stockholm 😂 Jakarta is far developed and metropolitan compared Stockholm. Amazing malls, high sky bars (the highest sky bar in Stockholm is 9th floor and Jakarta 56th floor), amazing restaurants etc. And I remembered once I got asked by a Swedish girl about where I come from? I said Jakarta Indonesia 🇮🇩 and she answered “poor country” lol only if she have been to Jakarta she probably will shut up 😂

Did you know that Jakarta is a city that HAS THE MOST malls and plazas on planet Earth? Yes, it is true. Is that crazy? They are more than 140 malls just in Jakarta only! You can googling "list of shopping malls in Jakarta" by Wikipedia. And Indonesia is also one of the countries with the most malls. In Jakarta, before the pandemic, almost all of them were full of visitors, it's sad to see in this video many malls are already empty. Have a nice shopping :)

@@winnydiana5228 That is actually a great explanation. Also, malls in Jakarta literally have everything. You can shop for clothes, groceries, books, home appliances, electronics, and you can also dine, see a movie, karaoke, go to the gym, or just hang out at a cafe. Many many choices of shops, restaurants, and cafes just in one mall. So it's very practical. You can just go to this one place and do (almost) everything. It's perfect for socializing with other people, like your friends, family, or coworkers.

@@RizTheUrbanExplorer Sandton mall in Joburg can rival grand Indonesia for the retail outlets but probably not the size. And we don’t have that many malls in South Africa. There’s probably about 10 malls in Johannesburg and maybe 5 in Cape town 😂

That I can tell about jakarta are not only about physical building but the people tend to talk everything. People going to mall at after hours hanging out with friends not just for eating or going to recently cinema. But they are talking about everything on there, it's the point. Never missed the updated social media

If you live in Bali, you do not really have to fly to Jakarta to go to the malls, you can also fly even closer to Surabaya. They have some glitzy malls as well. But, Surabaya is not as walkable as Jakarta, and the public transport system is not even close to Jakarta level. As for now, Jakarta is still the most complete package to experience the urbanized style of Indonesia.

Actually Surabaya of East Java also has one of the biggest mall in Indonesia, if you have plan to make a trip to East Java such as Bromo make a transit in Surabaya, maybe it can be a closer option if you wanna do shopping instead of flying to Jakarta because its closer to Bali.

Agree!! 45 mins flight from Bali and as fancy malls as Jakarta. 10 hrish bus or train ride. Try our interprovince trains, you won't be disappointed.

High-end brand just available at big city in indonesia like jakarta, surabaya, bandung.. the nearest to bali would be surabaya, you can visit surabaya next time 😆

if you wanna go to shopping you can go to Surabaya in East Java. It's second big city in Indonesia and more close from Bali.

I like that they walked outside to get from the Plaza Indonesia to the Grand Indonesia mall. They are actually connected and you can walk inside to get to each through a sky walk. Right behind Indonesia Grand is the Thamrin City mall, not as fancy but a good mall just the same, and where they have a Hyper mart.

Must be good to get out of quarantine, the malls remind me of Pavilions in Kuala Lumpur! I didn't really get the chance to explore Jakarta so am finding this very interesting

Im indonesia and i study on KL on 2016, i spend 4 years there and in my spare time, i visit Pavilion the most then walk to farenheit, lot10, i forgot a mall next to bukit bintang monorail station also electronic stores close to ENVY club, finaly Berjaya town square.

There are also quite many great and free public parks in Jakarta. Just to name a few: Monas park, senayan GBK park, kemayoran park, PIK (with ocean view), suropati park, and many more. You should go there when you have time :)

A bit worried seeing Claire carrying her sling bag at the back, it might attract pickpockets, you may notice locals carrying their bags in the front or if it must be worn on the side press it tight with your hands.

Take the MRT from Bundaran HI down south to Istora and go to Pacific Place, ASHTA and the GBK central park and national stadium. You kept saying that you weren’t expecting this from Jakarta. So what did you initially expect from Jakarta? What were your preconceived notions?

Thank you for letting us know. We had very little preconceived notions about Jakarta because it’s not a city that is frequently spoken about or visited by foreigners we know. It is a city that competes with other SE Asian cities in terms of public transport and accessibility but isn’t given the attention it deserves, and the attention all the other cities get. Perhaps we’re just naive, but we’ve spoken to a few people that knew nothing about the city either?😊

If you live in Bali and need all branded stuff no need to go to Jakarta, just fly to Surabaya - East Java (2nd Biggest City in Indonesia).
