First Kayak Fluke Launch Turns to Topwater Sandeel Magic

*FYI it is a bad idea to kayak in waders. If I flip and they fill with water then I will not be able to get back into my kayak. I am wearing a wading belt which would keep the water from flooding into my waders, and a pfd to make sure I dont sink. Lots of kayakers die every year, dont be one of them.
Have done very little kayak fishing here in RI... This was my first surf launch I've done, with hopes of finding some sort of decent fluke. Turns out the fluke fishing wasnt good but striped bass and bluefish were around in good numbers and made for a great afternoon of fishing.

I'm the same way with baitcasters, I need a left handed crank. My left hand is so uncoordinated that I cannot work a rod with it, the rod needs to be in my right hand.

Honestly I think I enjoy your fluke videos the best. And personally I was not even aware you could use hickory shad strips for bait. Nice video! Any reason why you don't take out the kayak much, or do you just not film those sessions?

its just a lot more work. I usually stay on shore, but shore fishing lately has been pretty stale. Had to change it up. Believe it or not, shore fishing for fluke in new england is a lot tougher than NJ/NY. Can catch the shorts pretty well here but anything over 20-22" is rare.

There’s a sand eel SP minnow, there’s a sluggo that looks just like sand eel, and Zman makes some stuff too. Zman is nice because it takes a minute for blues to rip it up completely. Much more durable plastics

I love zman.. their headlock jigheads too. Im sure I have plenty of things that would catch in this circumstance, will dig through all my stuff the next time I think Ill be seeing some sandeel fish.

Dumb question, why did you take the back hook off the spook?

Mainly because that back hook gets caught a) in my waders/skin or b) deep in the fishes mouth/gills. If you notice those first couple fish I caught didn’t even have the back hook. Debatable but a lot of times the back hook does more harm than good

Love your videos as always after a few years but seeing you ocean fishing in waders off a kayak is pretty stupid and at least you should make mention of that. Many are watching that have no clue and will try to simulate your actions...
