I hope they're thinking big picture. The casting for Shivers would have to be really well thought out since he's in nearly every book. And scenes like the one in Cardotti's has to be done right since it's such a pivotal scene for several characters.

Great content - as a huge fan of his books too, I think that (just based on the ruthlessness of how they bin tv shows all the time) that they are trying out to see how an audience will react to BSC movie. If it does well, then I could see First Law being turned into a tv series.....there's so much good material! And I also hope they do a good job but I feel with Joe on board, this will help a lot

The biggest thing for me is that Joe wrote the script himself. Not only will that ensure the quality is as good as it can be, given the alterations and cuts that will unfortunately need to be made, but Joe used to work as freelance film editor, so he'll have some industry knowledge too. Providing the production quality and casting is good, I think Best Served Cold will make an amazing film, hopefully launching the production of a First Law Series off the back of it.

I'm ridiculously excited. I can't even get my mind around all of this. Initial thoughts, call me crazy, and I may die on this hill alone - I would have liked to see Lauren Cohan as Monza, with a tan of course. They really need to get Cosca and Shivers right as they are in the other stories quite a bit.

Rebecca Ferguson should be great and Joe Abercrombie writing the script itself hell yes. I'm going to need to see the Cosca casting though. One thing I am excited to see is the union's style of fighting, especially if they stick to Ganmark? Being one of the greatest swordsmen in the world

I did see Monza as more Mediterranean or as you say Italian looking. Rebecca Fergusson is more of an Isern-i-Phaill to me. But she's a good actress. I've heard Clive Standen from Vikings fancasted as Shivers, it's the best one I've heard yet. Perhaps Christophe Waltz as Nicomo, maybe Antonio Banderas as Grand Duke Orso. Ooh shit! Shenkt, I forgot about Shenkt. BSC is the least spoilery of the standalones, I guess. I would like some Bloody Nine shaped foreshadowing from the Shivers POV. They better keep the brothel fire scene in just to hear "THE KING! THE KING!" being squeaked in the background

YES! Great news. BSC feels great as a starting point. The book feels like a heist/revenge movie and perfect as a stand alone calling card. If they only get one chance, it's a good choice. The trilogies would work better as TV series. So hope this works out. Fed up with the same old recycled IPs when there are so many great books/ comics out there.

I'd love to read Joe's adaptation. His video editing skill should make for a very dynamic script and I bet it would be a blast to read. I hope they make it available for sale.

I realize I'm commenting rather late on this video, but after recently watching an interview with Rebecca Ferguson and Simon Pegg, I can't help but speculate a bit. Seeing how well they appear to work with one another, would it be a stretch to think he might be able to play Cosca? And if so... Nick Frost as a possibility for Friendly? Maybe far-fetched (I know), but I find the idea intriguing all the same.

I like how absolutely giddy you get whenever you talk about Abercrombie, no matter the venue. Lol. I find it an extremely positive force in the fantasy fandom and wish more content creators focused on such positive energy related topics instead of ginning up divisiveness and stoking over-the-top criticisms. Excited!! As others have mentioned already, my enthusiasm increased when I heard Abercrombie would be writing the screenplay. If something gets cut or changed, we know he had a hand in it. ….I felt this way about the adaptation of The Last of Us. I may not have liked some of the changes, but Druckman was involved and was party to those adjustments. For some reason knowing the creator is fine with the changes to their “baby,” I am less able to gripe and find fault.

Considering that the stand alones were inspirerd bye some of joe‘s favorite movies makes sense for them to be adapted as movies.

Am very glad joe doing the writing think it is essential if the feel of the books is to translate to adaptation, but like you am worried about how it will affect his book output a la dear George 😱

Really agree with everything you said- I am still holding out hope for a show for the OG trilogy. But, I just want it done correctly. Too much has been done poorly lately and First Law deserves only the best.

I imagined someone like Hayley Atwell, but younger and tougher. I'm not sure about Shivers. Plenty of possibilities among less known actors. But I'm extremely cautious in picking an actor for playing Cosca because he's my favourite in Best Served Cold.

I side with you (sorry Pierce lol). While i like Heroes more I can't think of a worse starting point in the series. I always imagined Monza being around 30 to 35 years old but i think Rebecca Ferguson has what it takes. I've liked her in everything else I've seen her in. I started my re-read of Blade Itself last night and i didnt realise just how much i missed being in these character's heads. Feels like putting on a favourite jumper... didnt think I'd ever use First Law in that context but here we are lol

My favourite Abercrombie book so far but I don't know how it can work on screen. Abercrombie's character work is second to none, but the story of BSC is pretty straightforward so I fear that the adaptation will not work as good as the book. I haven't read BSC, just the trilogy so is it the same where most of the character development takes place in the inner dialogue of the chars and do you see this as a problem if they are saying their thoughts out loud constantly or would a narrator work?

Abercrombie (in a Twitter comment I found) said Monza was 32-33 in Best Served Cold. I'm cool with Rebecca Ferguson. I don't know much about her but she's got a wiry and lean look that can become quite 'hard' looking that I think suits Monza. I'm super pumped for this. And I don't know what Pierce Brown was thinking as he's clearly wrong. Best Served Cold I think is the only one of the "stand-alones" that can actually reasonably stand alone.

After how seeing how atrociously the latter half of GoT was handled and what dumpster fires The Witcher adaptation and RoP turned out to be... You have to be realistic. But I am ready to get hurt again, I was so HYPED when I read the news about this. Also we need a fan-casting / actor and actress speculation video!

I think it is a good decision to test the movie audience´s reaction about Abercrombies world. The caracters are so especially in "Best served cold" so nobody have to know about the past of them. Hope it will be "dirty" enough.

No adaptation will ever be as good as the one we have in our heads (obviously). The best we could hope for is one that won't be too disappointing. Toxic fandom will poison any casting choices and suck any pleasure out of the production. But Joe deserves all the money tho... so there we are. And... any Abercrombie adaptation should be a multi episode production of course. A single movie will make it feel like Cliff Notes and who wants that? You're awesome , thanks for my oppurtunity to rant.

Honestly I think this is the right choice for an adaptation. Actually, I've been saying that Best Served Cold would make a great movie ever since I read the book. I'm so glad they've listened to me 😂 I just think that it can be translated to screen very well and that it's a good entry point because it'll appeal to wider audience, not just fantasy fans. I mean, it has all elements of great action film imo. I really need them to nail the scene at Cardotti's, the absolute madness and chaos. It's going to be so much fun. I can't stress enough how excited I am to see this. But yeah, I agree, they really need to get the characters right and think of biger picture because ultimately I want to see every First Law book adapted.

Cosca is by far the best character in the series, he could be as famous as jack sparrow if done right. Probably will be disappointing since no book adaptation is the same as what your imagination can conjure.

It's strange to imagine to alot of people, the first trilogy, if it happens, would be seen as a prequel.

Hopes are high for this but, rings of power and wheel of time sets my expectations low.

I'm tepid about it. I think I have just lost so much faith since the ending of GoT and then with WoT being bad. I just cannot believe the studios have them in it to do make the right choices. If we were to count out of all the adaptation since the LOTR movies, how many were good? The total is probably very close to zero. I would absolutely love to be wrong about this, but if I had to put money down, it would be on it being bad. And as for 'Joe wrote the script' making it seem fans should be on board, that is just a super clever ploy and early marketing tactic by the studio. This gets the buzz started, but almost assuredly they will have some no-name hack come in and rewrite it or get noted to death by the studio and the end product will look nothing like Joe's original script.

Rebecca Ferguson and Florence Pugh are "the" actors now - they literally get into all the big releases these days. It kind of annoys me a bit, not sure why.

Not going to bury the lead, my Shivers has always been Adam Driver. This is great and WAAAY overdue. I’m happy with any adaptation. Originally I would agree that a long form tv series is perfect, but with how these platforms are treating adaptations lately, and that the mainstream boom of fantasy may have already peaked, I’m more than cool with a movie.

This will be a ESG driven mess if it happens in Hollywood. I hope it's done well. I

I don't want to be disparaging, but Glokta is *not* a Sam Claflin for me at all. More of a Timothy West... old, sneering, deprived of teeth!!! My theory is you fancy Sam Claflin.

Given the increasing likelihood of a three-headed Hollywood strike, doubt we'll see any further casting announcements for quite some time. Not gonna lie, Miller's involvement is what has my interest piqued. I'm imaging the possibilities of the aesthetic of the title sequence of 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' applied to this world and it's blowing my fucking mind.
