Back in 2018, the Alpine A110 won Top Gear’s Performance Car of the Year award. We loved its lightweight agility and friendly balance. So how has Alpine spent the intervening four years? Turns out it’s been finding ways to save even more weight, add downforce and grip, and make the A110 a much more serious track-focused piece of kit. And the result is the 1,082kg Alpine A110R. It’s festooned with carbon fibre trinkets, the aerodynamics were honed in the Alpine F1 team’s wind tunnel, and they’ve got so serious about saving weight you don’t even get a rear wiper. Plus, there’s a special edition dedicated to two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso (just as he quits the team).

This shows that lightness means everything. This Car may have 300HP but as it weight less that 1100KG, it can do 0-60MPH in 3.9 Seconds🔥🔥🔥

@@redline589 battery would bareley exist , possiblysuper capacitor only. im not asking for regenerative braking. im ideally thinking of two piston heads on a shaft with magnet and lubrication on it, magnet moving back and forth makes electrity with manet around it that doesnt move. so it could be a flat 2 or a triangular prism 6 or flat 6, lexus lfa soundbox by yamaha sort of thing that delays sound front going out the exhuast by echos, maybe harmonies can be made to make flat 2 sound better. but im more interested in effeincy focused compact 4 seater with rear seats facing rear for areodynamics, weight centralization and lowering to ground and reduction, interioir airspace reduction for more effceint AC and heater. front wheel drive plugin hybrid but handles like a better 1990s honda integra R or lotus elise in weight distribution so its easier to carry more speed around turns. to help minimize braking, steering, around turns becuz its more effceint than degrading battery by unessesary use and getting energ into and out of batttery reduces its lifespan. formula 1 style flywheel battery could e applied by new material described in video by two bit da vinci. doors open by middle pillar for structrual strength wiht less door hinge weight, maybe a simpliefied konisegsegg gemera or nimbus ev door

I know right… People bash the latest supercars for not being emotional or connected enough, too robotic, etc. but if you really want pure driving fun, a sports car is the way to go. Supercars thrill with the speed, the exotic nature as walk up to them and sit in them, the noise and the historical aspect of the brands. Sports cars thrill from what most car lover likes, sweet handling, manageable power and speed, relatively affordable price tag. Sports cars over supercars for fun, hands down.

They could have taken the engine closer to GT4 spec somewhere around 360hp. At this price this is obviously meant to be exclusive, track focused, and a showcase of their state of the art, so a bit of a disapointment they did not touch it.

You would need better gearbox for that, engine is fine for tuning but you can't deliver more power. It's still great gearbox but has low limits

As much as I prefer lightweighting to power I feel like they should have given it an extra 20-30 hp for the money that you know they are going to charge. It's a turbo engine, it's not like adding power is expensive.

Carbon fiber wheels may sounds cool but the drawback is it transmits more unwanted vibration unlike a magnesium or forged aluminum wheels not to mention its so damn expensive.

Alpine A 110 R is track focused, so, maybe not such a problem. Plus, reducing unsprung masses is extremely important.

@@bertrandviolette9008 They don't exactly quote us a figure, but considering the overall is about 34 kgs, let's say they are 15 kgs lighter over all four wheels. The sprung mass, possibly 850kgs, unsprung 150kgs ... 15/150 = 10% reduction in unsprung mass! Which is obviously pretty huge for wheels alone! Especially considering that they are almost certainly stiffer wheels. Still, I wouldn't want to have an 'off-track excursion' with them anytime soon! So, I would personally go with a nice forged aluminum (possibly magnesium if cost is no object) wheel these days. They are going to be cheaper in the long run for any track car.

'R' stands for Removed. Removed during production usually means a higher cost, dedicate a model to a specific champion driver and the price goes up even more Stick with the standard car and save a fortune, dont be drawn in to this hype.

Their drab unimaginative minds will just look at numbers and compare it against the Megan’s and the Duster and Captur and all. They’ll never appreciate this A110 for what it really is - a gem in a sea of cookie cutter drabness.

@@CosmicSeeker69 I have driven the normal a110 hence why I’m saying it would be good if it was manual. Changing gear yourself is satisfying adds to the enjoyment of spirited driving. I had an auto license and re did my test just to buy a specific manual car so not an auto hater.

I freaking love this car. The only frustrating thing is how all the reasons for the praise this car receives, are the same reasons everyone bashes the Alfa Romeo 4C for. I don't understand the inconsistency. Seems to me like everyone wants Alfa to fail.

@@bobdobbs69 im not implying anything, I'm explicitly saying that I think its wrong that the 4C and the A110 are the same philosophy of car, but all the journalism done on them give nothing but praise for the A110 and disappointment for the 4C.

@@bobdobbs69 very true, but the brits reviewed both, and even the Americans that got to test the A110 and loved it but criticized the 4C. Only reason I bring it up is because I would've loved a 4C Quadrifoglio, and we didnt get it because it didn't sell well. But the A110 sold well and now is getting an R version. I honestly think the journalism done when they came out is the cause

Honestly I've never gone for this insane reduction of weight at the expense of genuine practicalities and comforts. Losing what was it 38KG and have it ending up looking like a NFS Underworld car is just sad. ESPECIALLY as the ONLY people who can afford these cars are guys in their 50's who are 30kg overweight anyway... And then NEVER take it to a track. Just nonsense enjoy the A110 leave it at that.

More power is definitely possible, being in Australia, the likes of Hollinger or PPG can rebuild the gearbox with dog gears making it almost indestructible. Cost? Erm... that's the problem. Might be noisy for the road though. 350 horsies is right on the money for this frisky frog.

I'd suggest that you go on the Alpine owners site and read the comments... I've only driven on track but I (very just) managed to go around an Aston on a very quick bend (Thruxton Allard) - boi that WAS fun!

£80k may well be £20k less than the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS, but it's about the same price as the non-RS 718 Cayman GT4 without options. 🤔

I definitely like the new cast better. Don't trust carbon fiber wheels. That's asking for the reaper. Not a big fan of this car necessarily without driving it I suppose. The special edition is a total waste of time. More track time please.
