Please react to 'cemetary gates' by pantera too. Beautiful dark ballad. The song perfectly shows phil aselmo's vocal talent. Pantera is the only band i know which albums went heavier and heavier with each release. They startet as a glam metal band. ^^

It'll make you feel like a million bucks. Pantera was broken up when Dime was killed. They took a break from their tour when 9/11 happened and things slowly dissolved from there due to communication breakdowns and drugs and creative differences, and the fact that the world had been turned upside down and the fact that they had been touring pretty much nonstop with hundreds of gigs per year since the early 90s and they all needed down time, but drug problems also like down time and isolation. You see, Phil injured his back in the early days of Pantera and had tremendous pain from the herniated discs in his spine and needed to have surgery to repair it, but that would have required him to recuperate away from the studio and be unable to tour for a year or more, and they were huge at the time. He couldn't do that, or he'd risk his success and the paychecks of everyone on his crew and the folks at the record company. He decided to treat his pain himself, with copious amounts of alcohol and pills and heroin in order to keep going. This was a problem when he overdosed, and things started to get rough within the band. But, things did get better and they carried on with their album-making and touring until 9/11. No doubt they would have gotten back together if Dime hadn't been murdered. Dime's brother, Vinnie, is the drummer in Pantera, and was the drummer in the band Damageplan with Dime also and that's the band that was playing when Dime was shot. Vinnie blamed Phil for Dime's death, as Phil was the one with the drug problem and the band was in two camps at that time, with each group- the brothers, and Rex and Phil- each working on their own projects. They were publicly arguing in the press and what not, but Rita, Dime's longtime partner suggests he wanted to check in on Phil and move forward with mending their relationship prior to his death. If not for Dime's death and Vinnie's inability to move past his baby brother's murder, they would have gotten back together, I have no doubt. They really did love each other and were getting along well on that final Pantera album and tour.

This one took a while to release, huh? Self proclaimed cowboys from hell. Though actually from right here in north Texas . The band stopped after Dimebag Darryl was killed in 2004. His brother, the drummer, Vinnie Paul passed away in 2018. They reformed in 2022 with Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne) on guitar and Charlie Benante on drums, to mixed reviews. Pantera was innovative and had their own sound, well respected in the metal circles. Maybe if you want to try another, check out Cemetery Gates. Thanks for the entertainment on a sleepless night. 🫤
