Just a quick look at a new espresso machine that arrived this week. The Decent DE1+ is capable of pressure and temperature and flow profiling. Which is pretty cool. More info:

@@andreakhaid Not if there simply was no such thing as a suitcase but - as I actually meant - a simple cardboard box as the one every other coffee machine ships in. I simply do not see any value in fancy packaging. If somebody needs to transport the machine regularly, they can offer a suitcase as an option, but I assume 90% of the buyers will place it in their kitchen or on their bar and never carry it around, so they pay 100-300 USD more than necessary for a thing tat does nto add much value but instead will only always be in the way. I really do not understand, why people would be interested in a package. OK, I also do not understand the interest in unboxing videos - probably the most boring invention of the last three decades.

@@Kref3 yes very good we are all very impressed with your opinions on packaging. @@peen2804 I am not bitching, I am giving my opion on other people‘s opinion. If you are not interested in this, do not voice your own opinion to begin with. I started with one sentence, I was missunderstood, I made it more clear, you do not like it, do not read it. And by the way: A Pelicase of that size is 300-500 EUR. So we are talking about an accessory of roughly 10% the machine value if purchased separately. a 10% discount is always worth discussing. Even if it is just 100 EUR: I‘d prefer the option. I was very happy to throw the cardbox in which my ECM was delivered away the day I decided it was about to stay. But much more interesting: It obviously triggers you, if someone says: I like it, then someone replies: I don‘t. You really should discuss these issues with somebody.

You have me fascinated about the flow of coffee again, if the pressure drops and flows to quickly it's too weak, if there's too much resistance and not enough flow then it can become bitter ... I haven't thought this much about the beans since I was a lowly barista as a teenager. I'm very much a believer in that data is beautiful, watching the live feed mixed with a thorough log could lead to some very dialed in consistent results. You sir have earned yourself a subscriber.

You've discovered what every person who uses an old lever pull knows after day 1. Pull lever, adjust pull pressure to adjust flow and profile. If you want a tactile way to pull a shot then grab an old lever pull & let your brain endlessly adjust the flow to pull a perfect shot, no hardware or software updates required. Talk about pressure profiling and flow rate. Fair enough you don't get a graphical readout, but you do get a state of symbiosis where you instintivly know what is ahppening during the pull.

In theory it sounds like this machine is ideal of lighter roasts that would take more tamping pressure to slow down an extraction on a commercial machine. Can you do some experiments with stupidly light roasted, dense, under processed beans where you poorly distribute and lightly tamp to see how the automatic flow rate adjusts?

Awesome James, I'm really curious to see how the DE1+ would stack up to any of the other high-quality home machines such as e.g. the Linea Mini. Maybe you could collect some empirical data on the effect of different flow-profiles on extraction yields (whilst evaluating the optimal taste/tds ratio) and compare this to a setup with a regular machine. Personally, I'd also like to think that the Decent provides an additional safety net for making a decent extraction even in the worst of cases. However, with all other conditions on par I'm sceptical whether it (or pressure/flow profiling in general) provides a more tasty espresso. I'm looking forward to your take on it! Cheers.

I would love to see grinder comparison run with this machine. Comparing different grinders and even new with broken in grinders will be way easier, if you are able to have detailed profiles an see for example pertubations in the flow rate. As a home machine I am more of the manual guy with my Strietman CT1, which is the the complete opposite of the decent. I'm somewhat scared about longevity with a machine as complex as the DE+.

Hi James, what's your opinion on having them as the main machine for a Specialty Coffee Shop? We're thinking maybe 2 or 3 machines instead of a big classic machine for our new shop. We're roasters, so part of the idea is to get a better understanding on how roast profiles affect espresso and using flow rate to understand this. We're looking into the DE1PRO, but are still uncertain on how it would behave at a cafe environment. Thanks a lot!

A lot of this is just coding in the OS to support the machines ability to understand what is written. GOOD START. I would lie to see from a usability perspective, the machine sold by itself and with PLUMB but mainly this .... A connection to a Phone or Laptop PORTS using the software installed in it - How about WIfi Espresso to the CLOUD. Now you don't need anything but your TV set to control it and everything else ... Oh Yeah. Cross-Platform usability between OS of computers and phones. That would be a game changer. But my post is 2019 and there is nothing said about the improvements. It is still in its infancy stages to something impressive.

Hi Gilbert, what wattage is your generator output, and do you know if the AC output frequency of your generator is independent of the motor driving it? I am the designer of the DE1 internals, and currently the DE1 expects the AC frequency to be 50 or 60 Hz, and quite stable. If you are not sure about your generator, but have a model number, I could look it up myself and figure it out. -Ray

I’m interested in this product from a commercial mobile coffee business perspective. Of course it can keep up with an office or home demand of coffee but what if I am running an event with a couple hundred people to serve craft espresso beverages to? Can this machine keep up with the demand the way competing single grouphead manual espresso machines can? How does a touch screen effect bar flow for a barista? And while I - as someone crazy about espresso - love the features and control this offers, I understand I’m making 90% milk beverages and americanos at events. Would this level of precision even be appreciated through milk and water or would I be better off dialing in by taste, weight and time as I have been without the fancy software? Thanks so much for this channel. I recently discovered you and have been impressed with your content and shared multiple videos as well.
