Bought a pair of BD 127s about a month ago. Out of the box they climbed great, but the glide was miserable. I was really disappointed but didn't want to return the skis. So, although the instructions indicate these skis are not to be hot waxed, I did it anyway. I put on a hard cold wax and kept the temp of my iron as low as possible to still get a good melt, scraped, brushed and polished. The process created an entirely different ski. They glide wonderfully. My boots are WOLVERINE Men's CarbonMax with 400 grams of Thinsulate. They are a hiking/work boot that has a sole that stays flexible even when the temps here in MN drop to -20F. A flexible sole is critical for these skis, given the design of the bindings--and -20F is the lowest temp BD recommends for these skis. For backcountry brush whacking these skis are so much better than typical Cross/X skis or snow shoes. The only limitation is down-hill runs. These skis are excellent for flat terrain and rolling hills, but not steep grades.

I bought a pair of the BD 127s from a friend who should gone for the 20cm longer ski with metal edges. She put a couple hours on them. I am looking for a sliding snowshoe instead of going up to 36 inch plus I need for the sugary powder we have here in the Bighorns (WY) I probably will pack my old base MSR Denali snow shoes along for icy slopes that these skis are not designed for.

Thank you for doing this video. I would be curious to see a review of the 147cm versions. Based on what I've read, they should be more stable and float on powder better, but a little heavier and less nimble. I would be curious to see if there is a substantial difference. Thank you.
