My first night sleeping on the new sail boat, ironed out a few more creases and learnt a lot. I think we are finally ready to start taking the boat on some bigger solo ocean sailing adventures!

Rod I think you named the tender without realizing it..."Comin' Along" is primo! Only thing I can say is you have a lot of faith in that chain and rope being clean letting it slide through those precious digits of yours. It only takes one burr or barney to end that day on a bad note! Get some fingerless glovies and throw them in the "never leaves the boat" locker along with that mask and snorkel and some fins! Fair winds my friend!

We live on a 45 foot yacht with a draft of 2.1m. we have motor/sailed the channels from Southport to Moreton many times, and haven't run aground yet (touch wood), the trick is to try and time it so that you are passing Jacobs Well at high tide, the tides in the channel flood in from both directions and meet at Jacobs Well (which is approximately half way) , so you will have the current helping you get to Jacobs Well then carry you back out. We use navionics on an ipad, the "autoroute" feature will show the correct track. Happy sailing

She was basically sailing on the anchor when that happens you can lock the tiller about 30 degrees and the current will hold her out in the stream, you may need to experiment with settings, you can also reduce the scope a little. Remember you can fish from your Yacht EH!

Advise you to pull the engine prop up when sailing, your speed will increase quite a bit. There is no rope on a boat, only line. You should pull the dinghy out of water at night/when not using for long periods of time to keep the bottom from becoming covered in growth over time. Creating a 3-4 point lifting harness and using the main sail halyard & winch will make it easy to bring .5m out of the water alongside.

I didn't know the deckhead literally came up on those things! Seeing that, the first thing that strikes me is to add a collapsing screen mesh to the rim, so that the opening all around is screened-in when the deckhead is raised, and you get to enjoy light and cross-breeze without inviting all the mozzies in for a snack :D
