The merger of FPSB with Bank of the Southwest was ill advised and ill conceived. Marcella Perry of Heights Savings was the only person who was against the merger. This was the beginning of the end of FPSB. Bank of the Southwest then merged with MCorp/MBank which was a huge disaster. MCorp/MBank distressed assets was bought by Bank One which then merged with Chase. Things would have been much better if Jones had listened to Marcella Perry and not gone through with the merger. Ben Love of Texas Commerce Bank also signed the death warrant of many a Texas bank when he and others pushed the Texas Legislator to pass the Intra-State banking law. It was until then illegal for out of state banks to own any part of banks chartered in Texas. That very law caused the demise of several Texas banks as well as Savings and Loans. Think of the huge loss of jobs and careers. People who lost their homes and cars when they were laid off due to the out of state banks that gobbled up Texas banks and the real tragedy is the lack of remorse of all those who praised the change in law and welcomed those predatory banks and said to them here we are for the taking. Just give my my money for my shares of stock and I'm outta here! And what's with all those folks cheering the demise of the building? They don't have a clue the promise that FPSB held for the community of Pasadena. The demise is just a reminder of promises made and promises broken. Expectations made and expectations that died....all gone...in a cloud of dust. The area around the bank building had the promise of success which is why the a mall was built next door and why Globe shopping center went up across the street. Look at it now. The mall is nearly empty and I wouldn't be surprise if it came crashing down like the bank building did. That was a time of reflection of lost opportunities not for idiots to cheer the demise of so many promises.

Seniors used to put soap in the fountain out front. We were so proud of our Bank. Who remembers the subdivision of duplex post war homes that used to be behind the bank?

Thanks for the video ! I grew up in and love pasadena, always cool to hear about the foundation it was built upon and learn about why the things are the way they are today. Sad to hear that that old, ugly building was once a sign of significant hope for the future of pasadena. I am still hopeful however, that the true potential of pasadena will shine bright one of these days, and not be left to crumble in a heap.
