First Person Driving Experience- 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE (W108)

I recently got the great opportunity to drive a 1971 Mercedes 280se, courtesy of my friend Andre. It was a very similar driving experience to my own Mercedes, which I will be making a video about here shortly.

My first Benz was a 71 108 280S with the Dual Zeniths. A great car and wonderful driving experience. If I had bottomless pockets I would buy another and restore it to factory new, or two or three for that matter...

That's wonderful!! My 72' 250 has dual Zenith's. I'm currently rebuilding them. I have the same goal with mine. Luckily, the interior is immaculate and it has 70,000 original miles. All it needs to be in perfect condition is the carbs finished, and a new paint job

Thank you! I would agree with that. They really do handle well for what they are. I love hopping in my w114 and just cruising. I feel like a very important person everytime I see that three pointed star sticking up from the hood in front of me 😂

My first car in 1986 was a '73 280 in white over blue leather. The straight 6 had a big four barrel carb which had amazing induction sound when the secondaries opened up. This car was indestructible and a blast to drive... could power slide it and either power through or let off midway and the back would tuck back into place. I miss that thing.

That's amazing!! Sounds like sweet ride. I can't quite power slide my w114 yet... but maybe I'll be able to once I rebuild the duel zenith carbs

@John Andrews hahaha, well, it foes already have 8 year old tires on it from when it sat... they are somehow not dry rotted at all, and they are usable. Luckily I don't drive the car much yet

…my first car was also a 280 (1972 280 SEL 4.5) in 1985 when I turned 16. It was my Grandfather’s who, passed the prior year. It was White on Tan, V8 automatic on the column, AC with a couch on the backseat that fits everyone. It is magnificent in every sense, it’s upkeep can be intense but is very worthwhile. She is still a joy to drive around to this day.

Appreciate that! I would assume you live here? They really are amazing. The one I own is a 72' 250 with 70,000 original miles, and it's a blast. Such good cars to own

as much as how these cars look really good, they're really complicated to sort out. I'd definetly buy this chasis with no engine or transmission in it and put a mercedes diesel engine in there and modify the trunk a bit for the fuel

Well, I would say they are 50/50. The only thing is complicated and confusing is the Mechanical fuel injection, but everything else is very simple and easy to work on.

@@datsoon9236 eh I disagree, sorting costs for timing chains on those engines including valve guide wear and what not are pretty astronomical. Unless someone is a DIYer and can tackle those timing chain jobs and engine head maintanence and the time to, then it should be good.There also goes the ignition system someone would have to maintain on these.usually these engines/car fail is when someone neglects one thing such as timing chains and creates a whole domino of effects
