Testing my new carry gun from Beretta. The Old Man decides he's going to shell out for the KelTec P17, and I sow some very old freedom seeds from my ancient S&W 469.
All in all, a very satisfactory range trip!

Good to see Mr Oom run the P17 too!

Cool too see you guys out at the range - and a nice looking range it is, too! That Beretta looks like a nicer fit in the hand than I was expecting... not sure why, but I was envisioning something more *sub*compact. As someone with big hands, that actually looks workable. BTW, that's an interesting reverb effect you picked up (for example, 3:00) - almost like someone slapping an old guitar amp with a spring reverb tank. I'm assuming that's actually the sound echoing back and forth off those huge parallel concrete dividers?

It is a very cool range indeed. We should meet up sometime and go. The individual concrete pistol bays are great but that reverb effect is crazy. Not just on camera. It sounds like that when you’re in there. I was very impressed by the APX’s performance. It’s a little rough around the edges compared to my wife’s earlier example, but it functioned flawlessly and was reasonably accurate.

How was the recoil? And im thinking of getting one but im stuck on this beretta or a glock 19 gen 3. Thoughts? anyone?

Snappy but not unmanageable. If you are on a tight budget, I still recommend the Beretta but most people would be better served by the G19. The biggest problem with the APX Carry is magazine availability. Right now they are completely unavailable. Beretta says they will be available soon but I haven’t seen any evidence of that yet.

@SuburbanRifleman like how snappy? Well I've got a budget of 525 bucks or less. So in your opinion should I give bereeta apx carry a shot? I'd like to save money. But I been told gem 3 compact glock 19 is amazing. Is that true?

@@thomasprim8274 It’s not terribly unpleasant. I didn’t have a hard time staying on target and making follow-up shots. I think the APX is well made and it’s been perfectly reliable. It’s also very slim and very easy to carry. But the Gen3 G19 is in a whole other class. It is the basis for the current pistol used by most of US SOCOM. I think they have mostly transitioned to Gen4, at this point, but the Gen3 is perfectly serviceable. If I had to choose one, I’d go for the Glock, if for no other reason than parts and magazine availability. I bought the APX A1 Carry because it was an amazing deal and I thought it would be fun to review. But I already have G19X. I am currently using the APX as my CCW and I trust it but I wouldn’t buy it before a Glock.

@SuburbanRifleman oh I see. Thank u for the information. Well the issue I'm running into is glock lile 540 bucks. I'm trying to find one reasonable price. Doesn't the gen 3 last one has the finger grooves? I love the finger grooves it's so comfy. I want something I can conceal carry. I bought a cccy cpx 4. It's not a bad pistol 380 too but I want a 9mm to carry
@SuburbanRifleman

@@thomasprim8274 Gen4 is the last one with finger grooves. 9mm is a good choice for carry. I think the APX A1 Carry would be fine but just be aware that it might be awhile before you’ll be able to find a spare mag.

Kel--Tec firearms are garbage, seen enough of them fall apart since 1995.Their customer service is pretty good. Some of their firearm frames are two pieces, not one molded piece. There's a lot of room from for improvements. There are better firearms Than Kel-Tec and Taurus out there to choose from like the SDS Imports Tisas PX-9 Gen 3 and pistols from SAR USA and Canik, Rost Martin and Beretta APX, just to name a few and rather spend a few more dollars for some of the others. Do have a Kel-Tec P-11 and been lucky to have no major issues with it. For Taurus am done with them, had three firearms recalled, latest being my Taurus GX4.

I’ve heard of a lot of issues with Kel-Tec firearms. I’ve been remarkably lucky I guess. I’ve had four of them over about the same time period, starting with the original Sub-9 carbine. I also had a P-11. I’ve had a P-32 for the last 15 years and now the P-17. I can’t remember if I had any issues with the Sub-9, but I’ve never had any failures with any of the pistols. I didn’t own the P-11 for very long though. I agree that there are a lot of top-notch products at very competitive prices nowadays. Bought a SIG SP2022 recently from Palmetto and I’m very impressed for the price. I’ve only had a couple of Taurus revolvers over the years. While I didn’t have any issues with those, I do have a friend who had a titanium .357 that went to pieces in his hands. He didn’t have a great customer service experience.
