What I've had to go through to get here is unfathomable. ..I might not even be here if it wasn't for these 5 amazing ladies. They are so very special. Like no other band I have known. It's cost me a fortune to be here. Money I don't have. But I really needed this. So money I don't have well spent...Long May They Reign!

Saiki's voice is very comfortable to hear. Her slow songs sound like lullaby that can make the babies sleeping.

Kanami is just amazing all around. She is one of my favorite musicians/songwriters so I am biased. The solo in the original is so emotional and the softer acoustic composition is even more emotional. Saiki is just an amazing singer who pours her heart and soul into these songs. She keeps getting better and better.

Kanami has a lovely backing voice that she uses but only sparingly as frankly she has so much other work to do. Miku does the backing on the recorded version. But all of them are very capable singers for support. Lovely song.

You can see why "Anemone" is a fan favourite! Wait until you get to hear "Puzzle" acoustic live. You will cry. Both together are just an incredibly awesome experience. There is even a long intro before both songs. Next up "Alive or Dead". Live versions are hard to find but here is live in Tokyo 2018. @@react-o-mat I thought you had the Line Cube Shibuya gig? It's not on that one, it's from Zepp Tokyo. The DVD of Zepp came with the "Start Over" single limited edition (now about £200+) or it's on Band-Maid Prime for a lot less Lol!

@@Davey-Boyd I have one from Zepp 2018 (April 13th) as well and also Okyuji tour at Studio coast from Nov 2017. Maybe I'll do a whole show once I'm through with their catalogue so I should save one, but I'm not sure if that would be allowed by YT 🤔

I know you've already reacted to Puzzle, but do take the chance to listen to the acoustic version from that video in your own time. Just as emotional as the standard version, but a completely different emotion! Kanami's voice does sound quite distinctive to me (softer and naturally higher than Miku's - almost dreamy), and it brings a new feeling to the songs. But generally if you're not sure who's singing something, it will be Miku, as she's very versatile. On the lyrics, I like being able to focus on the music first without understanding the words, but from the better translations I've seen, I do think that Miku is a fantastic lyricist. With a few exceptions (e.g. Domination, Manners), there is always a darkness there, even in love songs or in songs with an upbeat message like YOLO. That gives them a real weight. The ultimate example is Choose Me, written with the idea of a "textbook about love" but the relationship described clearly has emotionally abusive elements, which makes the song much more novel and interesting. Miku has said that she (and the reset of the band) deliberately makes her lyrics less dark than they naturally would be, but I love the darkness.

Anemone has my favourite drumming on any song by anyone ever and needless to say my favourite BM song and one of my favourite songs period.

I'm so glad you relistened. In this particular song, I feel the band is so "in sync" that it's easy to miss what each instrument is doing, apart from Kanami's solos.

You have a very eclectic list of top Band Maid songs. I think Daydreaming is the only one on my list. Nice thing about Band Maid is there is no wrong list and you still have a lot of their more recent songs to listen to.

I basically have to change it every time I listen to new songs 😅 but some songs like Mirage and Daydreaming will pretty much be always in there. And I think anemone will be too... Already listened to it about 10 times now 😋

The studio version already gets under my skin, but this acoustic version always hits me pretty deep, not to say breaks me. 😭 You are absolutely right that Saiki has a special gift to convey emotions with her way of singing and her voice. A gift that makes a language barrier suddenly seem non-existent. And Kanami's angelic voice only multiplies the whole thing a few times. Without wanting to offend Miku, but for this performance in particular, for this song, Saiki and Kanami was and is a real dream duo for me. I may be wrong, and I don't have any proof, but I'm somehow pretty sure that even in the studio version(s) - yes I count the Maiko version as well - Kanami lets her lovely voice be heard. The way some passages or words are pronounced (e.g. 'Oh, baby') don't sound like Miku to me. But as I said, this is pure speculation on my part. :) _____________________ 「 _'Our rock never dies ever. Both versions of this song draw you in and capture you. And Kanami is very unique in her compositions. She takes the basic verse chorus verse blueprint and changes it up as the song itself takes her. And if I am remembering correctly this song is about a love lost. Not a romantic love, but a close friends love and the death of that friend and the hole of that person no longer being there. And those look like phosphor bronze the same as what I use. Probably because the guitar has a piezo pickup. I can use steel strings on mine, but steel strings with the piezo sound so weird because steel strings need much more tension vs the phosphor bronze strings. The bronze strings have a much fuller deeper sound over steel, but you can't use phosphor bronze strings with a magnetic pickup, but a piezo sits under the bridge and is based on the pressure and vibrations transmitted by the strings to the bridge and soundboard of the guitar. And Saiki has one of those voices that can transmit emotion clearly. And in the studio version it is Miku doing the backing. Kanami does some of the backup singing during concerts, but mostly in the past she would trigger a vocal backing track with her microphone. All of the Ladies do sing, and many times they will sing for the backing track but not in concert as it can distract them from their instrument. Both MISA and Akane have said it's hard to play and sing at the same time for them. Though both have done it live when the computer they use for their backing tracks died or has been mislaid by the airline.

This is bit of a soppy love song that hits you real hard when you're in a certain mood. The album version has just as much emotion in it, but conveyed in more held-back, very delicate, subtle way, while in the acoustic version the emotional delivery is very raw and powerful. To me album version wins - the contrast of the guitar and vocal just fits the lyric perfectly. The girl tries to hide / contain her pain and feign calmness and being tough, Kanami's solos are the tumultuous feeling going through in her heart. I love it.

I have long believed Kanami sings in the studio version as well. It's just speculation though. They only list their standard roles on the albums instead of detailed credits like some bands do.

Anemone has been out many times in various forms such as covers [ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i66Jh7B0yd_dlp8.html ], fan-produced MV's [see old reactor vids ] and their well-known live acoustic version that includes Puzzle. It has probably generated a few hundred thousand more views from these sources all tolled. But Anemone should have been released as an official MV. Had it been, I'm sure it would have reached millions of views. Thx, Benedikt!

@@edwardallen4051 Love to learn the language...but it's very pricey..And I feel you really need to be able to use as offen as possble...to really get to grips with it...especially if you have no-one to talk with to test yourself and get it locked in....it would be so much harder doing it alone..My head is messed up now..I barely know what day it is..let alone learn Japanese!...YT is my only form conversation..I don't talk to anyone from one month to next..I have no friends and my family (what's left) is estranged...BAND-MAID have been the light in darkness I have felt since losing my partner to cancer in 2017...That's why I am spending stupid amounts of money I don't have in flying to Japan to see them LIVE in Tokyo on the 9th....I fly out tomorrow...If I can grab a break as it's been a nightmare to sort..With continual obstacles all the way...Even now..I cant get a taxi to get me to the nearest bus stop that links to the airport. (holidays in Scotland are different than in England)..I have to walk 4.5miles carrying my luggage in the rain (raining here) at 4am up and down hills to get to bus which may not even be running (phoned the bus helpline and they coudn't confirm if their own bus was running)..So I am in a pickle for sure.( I dont' drive)...I have yet to finish booking accommodation..as I have stupidly decided because of the cost of the flights..to stay for 3 weeks!...I have the first week done...3 different hotels in Tokyo..But not the rest..So It really is last minute..and would you believe..Booking went down so I couldn't log in to complete booking...But I have just this min managed to sign back in..and ma trying my best to book the remainder..Hoping to go as far south as Kagoshima..then back via Kumamoto, Hiroshima, Kyoto(side trip to Osaka,) back to Tokyo..I have NEVER booked a trip or traveled alone...I am stressed to breaking point..But I so want to see the ladies in their home country..They mean alot to me.

Kanami typically plays an Alvarez acoustic, here I believe she is using an Alvarez / Yairi which she borrowed for this performance. Unless the owner or Kanami fitted something else it probably had D'Addario EXP16 strings which come with the instrument.

It seems you're balls-deep in WD album and only lightly dipped toe in anything later. I recommend enjoying WD and Conqueror albums first because, for me, knowing all their back catalogue heightened my pride and joy in the Maids when they unleashed 'Different' and then the 'Unseen World' album. It's crazy how they keep developing and becoming more original in their song writing.

I kind of started in the middle with Conqueror and then did Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, now World Domination. Next up is New Beginning and then Unleash and after that their first and last. So I go in both directions ;)

This is one of my favorite BAND-MAID songs. People just adore the acoustic of this, but for me it's vastly inferior. Kanami's electric guitar parts are essential, soulful, and elevate a good song to a great one.

I would just consider them different songs tbh. What you say about the studio version is absolutely right, but the acoustic just has a different vibe to it and the focus is a lot more on the vocals, which I enjoy a lot more on the acoustic (maybe also because that is a live performance and the other isn't 😅) As mentioned in the video this really reminds me of 'Babymetal - Akatsuki' and the 'unfinished ver.' of it. Same melodies yes, but not really comparable imo 😉
