EXO debuted on 2012 and are originally 12 member group, divided by two-- EXO-M(Mandarin) and EXO-K(korean). Their company opted to promote the group in other country esp china because some of the 12 members are chinese. But now I think their only 8 left in the group. Suho, Xiumin, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, and Sehun.

Im soo glad you dove into EXO i have been watching your Red velvet videos because i love them too and they are considered as sibling groups under sm since they debut close and vocally are strong for the 3rd generation of kpop :) So EXO has a pretty complicated history but heres a brief breakdown: The group originally had 12 members ( 4 chinese and 8 koreans) and they split into 2 units called EXO-K ( 6 korean members who sing and promote their songs in south korea) while the remaining 6 members formed EXO-M ( 4 chinese members and 2 korean) who sang the same version of their songs in mandarin and promote in China...This was before the 3 former chinese members of EXO-M left in different times hence why when you go down their discography you will see them go from 12 to 9. Anyways before their debut in 2012 they released 2 pre-debut songs which are WHAT IS LOVE (exo-k and exo-m versions) to showcase their promising vocals which is why you will see 2 of exo-k main vocalists singing and 2 of exo-m's main vocalists singing in each versions. Then they released HISTORY to showcase their promising dance skills then they released their debut song MAMA again exo-k and exo-m versions. The fandom is called EXO-L because L stands for LOVE and L is between K and M in the alphabets hence why the fans are what connects each units of EXO :) Thank you, and they do every genre of music every comeback and they are heavy on rnb and they always have this old school vibe evident in their songs and dont even get me started on vocals...they just keep getting better and better. What you watched was baby EXO now imagine now they have mastered and still are training their vocals :) Next year will be their 10th anniversary too! oh and i havent even started on their complex story line concept which is very important to know a general understanding of it if you want to know whats happening in all of their music videos but keep in mind that each mv storyline is not released in order but fans have made the connection. So in general EXO are aliens from exo-planet who each members have a super power which you will see in their debut song and it will also have a very informative introduction to their concept. The red force is their enemy which is conveyed in different forms in every mv but basically its trying to destroy EXO and their powers so EXO will escape to Earth and at the same time they have split up and are looking for each other shown in WHAT IS LOVE mv. They are also trying to protect Earth and HUMANs......this is all i will share because i literally can write a book if i have to explain it all at once :) Happy to have you on board of your EXO journey we will be here to help explain anything that might be confusing later on! edit: i forgot to mention because members have started enlisting 2019 in the military since its mandatory in south korea, since 2019 the korean members that are active have started doing solo projects and sub-units, 2 jsut got out already and 3 are serving now, 1 will enlist next month and 2 are left who havent enlisted yet and Lay wont since he is chinese. but Lay was the firstt exo member who started his solo projects in 2016 and he already put out 4 amazing albums composed and produced by him and his studio team :) People respect EXO in the korean industry for a reason for being hard working, multi-talented and always going strong like their slogan, WE ARE ONE! Yes EXO! They are the group that got me into K-Pop. They are one of my ults (alongside BTS and Monsta X) One of the best discographies in K-Pop. You won't be disappointed! They debuted with 12 members divided into two groups (EXO-K sang in Korean and EXO-M sang in Mandarin) but 3 of the Chinese members left the group so now they promote as 9 under just EXO. So when you notice numbers change in MVs that is the reason why lol You really liked Baekhyun's vocals. His solo work is exquisite. His last two albums both broke 1 million in sells and he holds the record for most albums sold in the first week by a soloist. He's a king in the industry truly.
