I agree with you; I am so glad I discovered So Hyang in September of 2019. She is a musical blessing from God. In fact, she is the closest thing I have found to a supernatural musical experience! She was about 37 when she sang this song and is now 42 though in Korean culture she is 43 because you are considered to be one year old when you are born. "...compassion, goodness and love" These are qualities you find in Sohyang, not just in her music but in her life. You are a very perceptive person. As a devout Christian, she has been supporting ministry work all her life and she said that the purpose of her singing is to bring consolation and comfort to those in need. She has so much control, and many vocal textures just like Dimash. To be honest, Lara Fabian and Dimash have more in common than So Hyang I think because of them singing in different languages, breath control, and the emotional side of the performance but... just something about how she executes the music reminds me of Dimash. So Hyang and Dimash are very different. I’m glad that the world can have both of them. Dimash is really the representative of popera, a new genre pushed to an unbelievably high level by Dimash. So Hyang is different. She has a very special place in my heart that she is a great mixture of a Gospel singer, a good portion of Mariah Carey, a little Celine Dion and a Korean pop singer and her super bright mixed voice high up in the 5th octave just killed me every time. Her live performances have generally been arranged very well (a lot by her own idea I heard) and she always ALWAYS gives you some surprise in a song but still with a very solid tone throughout the entire song. She has too many good performances to recommend, both in English and in Korean. Just roll your dice and you won’t be disappointed.

Since surviving cancer, she sings to comfort people, and usually picks songs that can have a spiritual dimension. She also sings in English without a trace of an accent, and could be a worldwide star if that was her ambition - but it doesn't seem to be.

This performance was not all she has to offer,it was just that particular week of the show it was given to traditional korean music,which is why she was wearing a hanbok(trad.korean dress).This song has become somewhat of an unofficial korean anthem as it is about that one day the north & south korea will one day reunite & become one, but it sounds very unlike so hyangs version as it is usually a simple folk song,but it has been made in to this more 'anthemic' piece by so hyang's amazing arrangement (so hyang does all the arrangements for the songs she performs). Maybe you should react to one of her performances of songs you may already know so you can see just how amazing her ability to make a song her own through her mastery of both vocals & arranging. I suggest next either 'bridge over troubled water' or 'lean on me' both from the show 'immortal songs 2' just to acclimatise your ears!!! & then,like Dimash there are so many fantastic performances for you to see. The original "I Am a Singer "is a South Korean show. The Chinese TV show that Dimash (2017) and Jesse J, KZ Tandiagan , Hua Chenyu (2018) performed is a different show and was also called "I Am a Singer", but was later renamed as "Singer". Hua Chenyu won the show in 2020.

The night she sung You Raise Me Up She just got out of Hospital and was advised Not to sing...So she did that....lol It's really a miracle this one of the most skilled vocalist of all time could be in such poor condition. And definitely she is much more than great technician and has Perfect Control of Her Gift...and Her singing is so special. So Being a Cancer survivor And still gets sick from Time to time. But is an Amazing Artist who gave up a Kpop career to sing for the Lord and for the Love of Music instead of stardom. She learned English as a Child from Disney Movies, which inspired her to Write two of her Books...(both Published and there are more). i've been watching both dimash and so hyang from several years. i enjoy and love both of them but for me so hyang is much better singer than dimash. she's better at storytelling and also more consistent at singing quality. basically she's more experienced than dimash. and i love your reactions as always :) peace....
