I've been riding for over a year, going for my provisional license test this weekend and I still get nervous before each ride. It's humbling to see someone else going through the same thing so thank you for putting this out there. I need to do what you do, more often. Just get on the thing and ride. Get the confidence up and remove the nerves :). Keep kicking arse out there!

Awwww thank you 🙏 I appreciate you stopping by and watching my video and leaving a comment, that makes me feel like it’s a good thing to share what other people may not share and that is that our nerves can get the best of us. I have to be honest here, when my husband watched this video he was nervous as hell watching it. My daughter who is a very experienced rider also watched it, but by watching it she pointed out some things that I was doing wrong which interned help me to be more aware of the mistakes that I was making. As simple as they were, changing these things has made a difference. Best of luck on getting your license 🙏

a tip from the Netherlands. Don't drive long roads but short ones. Then you have to switch and steer more, then the feeling comes naturally. And you learn more and faster. anyone can drive long roads.

Good luck with everything and I hope to hear from you again. 🙏

Wooohoooo I was so proud, happy, and anxious for you while watching your video! I’m glad you’re able to talk about the bad things, realize what you did wrong, and focus on what you should’ve done✅ that’s a real bikers mind👌 that’s awesome that you did 505 by yourself! You were making me anxious for you, but as soon as you got on, I heard the excitement in your voice!😂 keep on riding!

Lol 😂 my hubby was nervous watching the video. I told him it’s been a while since I have been on the bike and I never had these type of mishaps happen all at once. But watching the video back allowed me to see what I was doing wrong especially when it comes to shifting and timing of releasing the clutch. I actually was not going to post the video but I wanted to share my mistakes so other people can feel that if they made the same mistakes they were not alone. I definitely feel better about getting on the bike and as soon as this heat 🥵wave is over I’ll be back at it. Thanks for leaving a comment and watching the video, I truly appreciate it. ❤️

Congratulations! Thanks for sharing! I’m in my late 50’s so understand the nerves 😬 New to this myself, so here is my top 10, so hope it helps others: Bike Practice: Top 10 Tips 1. Clutch control: release slowly to find engine grip starting to apply drive to rear tire. Practice slow driving and balancing of bike by letting out clutch just enough for maintaining motion; Learn balance point of your bike (handy if ever in slow moving traffic); 2. Figure of eight turns: practice slow figure of eights using only light breaking; Alternate clock wise then anti clock wise; Learn U- Turns this way by being able to handle the bike in small turns; 3. Emergency stops: do slow speed fast stops; practice practice practice with increasing speed and try to shorten stopping distance; Learn to use front break (squeeze) and back break (light pump) as not to lock breaks. Learn you break capacity and control; 4. Counter steer: practice to avoid obstacles; slower speeds to increased speeds till comfortable with how much pressure to apply (Push right/Go left). 5. Intersection short and long turns: practise to steer bike where you look (want to go); Short turns in Oz is into left lane; Long turns could be across say two lanes to turn right; REMEMBER: Look where you want to go; 6. Curvy roads: build up confidence to lean the bike; approach corners slowly, off throttle, squeezing front break early before corner if you need to slow down; then only start to apply throttle when you can see the clear exit; watch out for bikes/cars wanting to pass; 7. Stop in 1st gear: practice to stop in 1st gear and left foot down (REMEMBER: keep eyes out for rear enders, so plan escape path when approaching intersection); Stop to left or right of car in front of you (NEVER directly behind); 8. Scanning ahead: Learn to scan ahead and tell yourself the obstacles you see out loud; repeat till you know you can see issues/obstacles/idiot drivers; Scan where you are going and back (could be squirrel in road!); 9. Parking: Rear end in! In our neighbourhood most cars park rear in (law in town); Practice walking bike in towards pavement; Have bike in 1st and clutch in; Use kill-switch and or Kick stand to park bike (in 1st gear); 10. Gears and downshift: This will come with time how smooth you do this, but practice in an empty car park shifting up and down; It can become muscle memory if you do it enough.

Always slow down before a turn. While in the turn, just use enough throttle to get you through it. Always drive more slowly when driving on unknown roads. Look out for debris, wet roads, oil slicks, pot holes, etc. Always drive as if the other drivers on the road are stupid and distracted. Always assume that the drivers around you can't see you. Wear bright colors that will be more noticeable on the road. Invest in a good helmet and body armor. Don't let tailgaters pressure you into driving more quickly than is safe. Better to change lanes and let a car pass you, than to ride faster than is safe to do. Most accidents happen when riders get distracted for a split second. Always plan an exit strategy in case the car in front of you stops suddenly. When approaching an intersection, even if the light is green, always slow down a bit and look both ways before crossing. There are many distracted drivers who will run a red light.

80’s Nostalgia Guy, that’s great advice. I]one day I was coming down off a back road and I could see a driver coming out of a side road exit to a stop sign. I see him inching out and wasn’t sure if he even saw me coming down the road, so I stuck my arm up and started waving like “hey I’m here, I’m here” he finally saw me and completely stoped. I now wear a bright neon yellow/green construction style vest. I want to make it home for dinner.

being over cautious will keep you alive. if your too hot, take off your gloves. crack your visor 1/2 inch, you can take your jacket off, if you dont have a place to store it, you can fold it a bit, lay it over the seat behind you and sit on it with the back part of your butt. carry bungie cords for times like this. a hi vis vest is a great idea. you can buy them from home improvement stores for around $10. well worth the investment. ive been riding for over 50 years. allways wear your helmet. i enjoyed the video.

Hey dwightgaskins, thank you so much for the advice. I really appreciate it. I now packed bungee cord with zip ties. I bought a high vis vest from work world. It’s a little bit on the sloppy looking side but at this point it doesn’t matter I’d rather be safe than sorry. I also bought an armored shirt which has protection in the back chest, shoulders and elbows. Much cooler than wearing a leather jacket for sure, but still giving me protection I need.

I love the video. I think it feels more relatable than a lot of the other motorvlogs. But the countersteering part took me awhile to get. Push right go right, push left go left. It's like that cause while you're moving and have power to the engine, when you push left itll turn the bars slightly right but the axis of the motorcycle when given power, wants to keep itself up and balance itself so it like goes left even though it turned your bars the opposite way at first.

Hey Christopher, how are you doing, hope all is well. The rebel 500 SE is a Beauty. I always say to people questioning whether they can ride or not that if I could do it, someone that has had no experience whatsoever, took the safety course and barely passed, took the written test and barely pass that, if I could do that and get myself on a short little freeway ride that anybody can do it. I hope you’ve become one of my subscribers. I appreciate you watching my video and leaving a comment. I look forward to hearing from you and how you’re doing on your riding adventures. I feel like the older we get (of course speaking for myself) the more adventures we need to journey on, can’t stop living, gotta keep it moving.

Hey, praying is always good! I like it! You are an inspiration to my wife who started riding almost two years ago on a Vulcan S, Another fantastic bike to learn on and stay on after the learning. She has now had a Vulcan S, Honda VTX 1300, KLR 650, and her favorite, Suzuki V-Strom 800DE. We're getting into Adventure riding. All her riding, about 8,000 miles in two years. She has really found motorcycling a release, and mental exercise and enjoys it so much! She has done a lot of parking lot practice and has had a lot of fun doing it. You can't do too much parking lot practice. She's to the point she can scrape the pegs whenever she wants, yankin' and bankin', practicing hard braking... LOL. I'm so proud of her! Not many better teachers out there than Jerry Palladino and McRider. Watch their videos for great pointers and training we all need to do if we're going to keep the greasy side down. You won't hate turns anymore and it makes those parking lot maneuvers easy. Your videos are good! I hope you start again. There may not be a lot of subscribers, but the people that are, really appreciate it!

Omg…thank you so much for sharing her story with me. her story is now an inspiration for me. I haven’t been on my bike in about eight months I’m sad to say. I’ve had a few physical injuries, and somehow have lost my way along the way. But this is a new year and I’m hoping to start over again. I’ve been mostly focusing on my little side passion which is repurposing jewelry on motorcycle license plate frame. I wanted to do something that was just for women when it comes to motorcycles. Finally opened a small little Etsy shop so my focus has been there. But when I read stories like this one, it makes me want to get back in the saddle. I feel like I gotta start from scratch again, but I know once I get going I’ll be just fine. Sidenote: i’m not concerned with gaining followers. This is just the way that in the years to come and I’m no longer here, my kids will one day look at these videos and say look at mom did…and that’s good enough for me. 🙏

So proud of you for getting back out there after your accident, but if I may say first of all, BREATHE! Calm yourself, second, TRUST YOUR TRAINING! In the store parking lots where you may feel a little claustrophobic, this will be where you practice your slow driving skills...take your time this will help further train you to keep your bike up at slow speeds. I know it may feel like day one but you got this! One more thing, at intersections, pull up a little closer to the vehicle in front of you, especially if there is someone next to you. Why because you want to be seen! With as much technology in cars, people don't see us, so put yourself in the position to give them the visual of you and the bike. Finally, keep this in mind, being so far back may someone the bright idea to jump in front of you as the light changes. Expect "cagers" to do something unexpected! Remember you got this!

I had a similar heat issue in the past with the jacket I was wearing. I got a black mesh jacket and it helped a lot, but still was kinda hot. A friend suggested a lighter color and I got a mesh jacket that's mostly silver and I think that made a big difference.

Hey Ben B, even when I went home and put on my mesh summer jacket I was still hot. Turned out that day was 103°. I picked the wrong day to go out. I hadn’t thought about wearing a lighter color but that makes sense. Everything seems to be in black. By the time I got home from the first ride I literally had to peel the jacket off. I was soaked with sweat not a pretty sight! By the way thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment I appreciate it. 🙏

You're getting back on the bike, it looks great and congrats for getting back on! I hear your nervousness, but remember ride your ride, get reacquainted, comfortable with your bike and gradually increase your skill levels. Also remember, when it's hot, it's better to wear light colored clothes(shirts, it's supposed to be cooler). These are all things I tell myself when I've been off my bike for awhile and dont forget to take some cold water with you!

Awesome job sister. Muscle memory ..... consistency. If you want anything hard enough in life. You'll get it. But yes. Practice. & MSF courses. & don't dwell on each mistake as your ridding, just reflect afterwards when your off the bike till the next time.

Wow! Good looking bike. Wow! Sorry but I don't Instageam, my sister urges me too but I just don't. I'm very sorry you had an accident with recovery. That would shake my soul for sure. You're one up on me in that department. I'm very sorry you had that experience. I would be stressed too, relax, drop your shoulders and practice, practice, practice. From watching this video I want to share something I learned in my motorcycle class that I finally took after 20 years of riding, and the inctructor said, "always be in the gear you're supposed to be in". going fast or slow, uphill or dowhill, or simply cruising. Once I heard it I always ride with that in my mind. It scares the bejesus out of me down shifting in error. Nice bike - I like it. ☺ Hang in there.

Thank you for that tip, I really appreciate it. “Always be in the gear you’re supposed to be in” I have written this on my board in the garage so I can read this before I get on the bike. My camera caught all of the bad shifting which in a way was good. My hubby told me the same thing about being and paying attention to and listening to the bike and what gear it should be in and with practice I’ll do better. ❤️

you really need a mesh jacket for days like that... its nice and cool when moving, and keeps the sun off. Also, counter steering is just a way to make the bike lean... If you lean right you go right, if you lean left you go left. Counter steering is just pressing the bars to cause the lean... press forward on the right, and it will cause it to lean right, hence go right.

The only thing about the 1100 is it would obviously be more power for me which I don’t think I’m ready for that just yet. But I get what you mean that that’s the last thing you have to worry about is shifting gears. I’m going to see how 2023 is going to be for me when it comes to riding. I really do want to master shifting & throttling, I think for me it’s important to learn like Second nature. I’ve never really seen an 1100 of close and personal but I am very curious to check it out. Thanks Gary for your advice, I truly appreciate it.

When temps start hitting into the 90's & higher you have to be careful what you wear on a motorcycle. Im all for wearing gear, but if your too hot and miserable it will distract you. Your better off with just a T-shirt and sun screen when its stupid hot. Wear a half helmet or raise the visor for air flow. Keep on pushin
