The clutch plate is stuck on with rust. Brutal moves or if you can change gear without a clutch, just drive around for a while. Heat often releases it. Good luck.

Yeah, success, congrats!!! Maaan, this engine runs and sounds really healthy/great (as it should be because of low mileage). As you might know already: Maybe the clutch breaks loose if you put it in gear and push the car back and forth a little while (without having the engine running of course). The brutal way sometimes also helps: Push-start the car in second gear and drive a bit around. Even more brutal: Start the engine while in first gear. Now, how's the engine of the red Karmann Ghia sounding after adjusting the valves??? Why did you hide that from us? :-) ;-) Thanks a lot for making taping editing uploading and sharing. I used to have a 72 Ghia convertible. It was driveable when I had it but needed a lot of work. Strangers used to come up to me in the street to talk about it or ask to buy it at the traffic lights :) Sadly I wasn't in a position to keep it at the time. I wish I still had it now with all my new KZfaq skills :)

I like driving the Mercedes quite a bit better. 007 is mostly a Saturday and Sunday driver. It’s always been that way. Everyone who sees me drive always has a big smile on their faces. There is only one other older bug around here. Haven’t seen it for years, and it was a black 67 with a sunroof. I wanted to buy it from the first day I saw it but he wouldn’t sell. His wife got really sick and passed away. He must have moved to be close to his kids. It is nowhere to be found. But you’re right, I should put some miles on it before winter! Love your channel and videos! Will be watching!

Cam was not broken. If it was broken then both of the rear cylinders would have no valves. Earlier vw's have radius lifters that jam.
