The smile on Hunter’s face when he heard that 460 for the first time… Priceless. That’s one fine pickup… It amazes me how you take things like rear main leaks and cracked new transmissions in stride… That kind of stuff is a gut punch to me after all that work… I gotta cuss, bitch, moan and whine for a few minutes before I go back in.

Well done Hunter you have something you can enjoy for years to come. You are lucky to have a father with such a well equipped shop and the knowledge to help you. This could be the start of a hobby of saving older vehicles and or equipment if you are that way inclined. You and your father have done a great job there and it sounds great. It will bring a smile to your face every time you drive it, and that makes it all worth it.

I'm a Chevy man but that old Ford is a sweet ride. Hunter is a lucky young man to have a father that helps he's kid out and it seems that you have a lot of patience too. The world needs more fathers like you, great job both of you and the other people that helped too.

I really liked the Ford Highboy compilation of videos. I am impressed with the knowledge and ability of both your sons, Hunter and Tucker. You are doing a fantastic job of teaching them trades that will help them throughout their lives. It makes a father happy to see how you teach and assist your boys. You are very patient with them and compliment them as they complete their projects. I always look forward to your videos and how you vary the content. Keep up the good work!

The long videos are awesome. If you made a 3 hour video, I would watch every second. Side note: I’m super curious how much much better the fuel mileage on that 5 speed swapped 6.9 would be. Probably very good.

My bucket truck is an F450 short wheelbase with a 3 valve V10. Even with the fiberglass utility body, it only gets 5mpg too. Probably it'd do a little better if I kept my foot out of it (which I don't, haha)

Sometime during the '77 model year federal mandate eliminated tanks in the cab (probably a/o 1/1/77) Prior to that 4x4's with dual tank had one in the cab and one in the back.

Thoroughly enjoyed this series on the Highboy. My dad picked up a 1975 150 Ranger back when I was 16. We did a little wrenching on that truck. What a great job you guys did and what a beautiful bad ass truck, I thoroughly enjoyed the videos on this truck. I had a 1974 F-100 Custom with the same brown color but solid. It had a 390 in it with headers and aluminum mag wheels. It had a three on the tree shifter on it. I was 19 when I bought it from my favorite high school teacher. I'm 66 now and I really miss that truck. I think I need to find me another one now. Watching you guys really brought back a lot of good memories. Thank you!!!

That is one lucky kid. I didn’t comment before because I waited until fire up day. When the inevitable shit eaten grin from ear to eat broke across his face. Through all that boring work and exhausting work which seemed to never end, I knew it was going to happen. There are 3 times a boy goes through the right of passage and that is when he loses his virginity, builds his first engine and starts it and the day he has his first child. Not a fan of that exhaust noise. I prefer to have a high flow muffler like a Mac 3” so I can hear the cam working through the headers and a nice low rumble. That’s just unwanted noise. Dad also has a special feeling of making his boy do something he can be proud of. Hunter is certainly a different person today. He now has self respect, something he didn’t have before. He now has a purpose because he now can see what he can do. This is one of those special and important life lessons that most parents want for their children. Expensive but worth every cent if it makes an unbreakable bond between parent and child. Good work dad.

I know its a lot to ask( know that 80/85% goes bad!) but ever considered apprentice ship? You and Kevin have all the skills. Option 2 start playing these videos at schools, community education programs maybe even juvenile prisons?! It could change a lot of young folks lives.

If y’all decide to repaint the truck you should pull the in cab fuel tank and plate over where the fuel neck filler cap is located. That will give him storage behind the seat for tools speakers and whatever else. Plus it will get rid of the smell of gas in the cab. My grandfathers 76 and 79 had in cab fuel tanks originally and no matter what the cab always smelled like gas and then we installed external tanks during the restoration and afterwards you’d never know they originally had cab tanks. We put a fuel tank tool box combo in the bed as it was just being built and restored as a ranch truck. The 79 was done similar to Hunters as it had a filler neck door on the bed as well. Some good sound deadening and heat shielding would make the cab much quieter and more comfortable but the truck is looking and sounding very good.

In about 1995, some of the upscale, standard cab, F-Series trucks had a really nice seat that would almost bolt into the 1977. The seat is a bench on the bottom, with two high-back bucket seat backs. Between the seat backs was a console that could be folded up. All covered in nice cloth. The tan color would be perfect for this truck.
