When you realise 1970 was 50 years ago.

Grew up in Germany around that time. While I have never seen them live on stage, I still remember being glued to the radio late in the evening to listen to the latest synthesiser music. Tangerine dream, Jean Michelle Jarre, Neu etc

No violence, no fighting, no threats...just people having a good time. This must've been a mind blowing experience for these kids. Remember this was 50+ years ago! Electronica, techno, house music, etc wouldn't make a huge mainstream splash til about 20 yrs or so AFTER this happened. Just blows me away....definitely waaaay ahead of their time. Omg did they ever release this as a song?! How addcitive even 53 years ago wow. Plus the whole ingenious production with the theater large screen and multiple cameras and flashing direction!! Even the clapping hands on the screen larger than life perfectly synchronized. In 1970!!!! 😮😅

Ab und zu kamen auch Freunde aus der Stadt und musizierten mit meinem Bruder (Bassist). Jedes Wochenende gabs eine Party und natürlich geile Musik: Rock, Soul, natürlich auch die ersten Deutschen: Kraftwerk, Ashratempel, Popolvu usw. usw. Lautstärke: volle Kanne! Ich danke meinen Eltern noch heute für diese Toleranz in diesen wirklich wilden Jahren! Ich habe heute ca. 1500 Schallplatten und etwa genausoviel Cd's. Was gibt es geileres als Musik!? ((Ich bin jetzt 70)!

We always hear of pioneers, specially in music, and how they were misunderstood, rejected, ridiculed, booed, ignored... Mozart, Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, Satie...to name a few, but we can only imagine how people reacted then; with this, we can almost feel the reaction. Though it's 52 y.o., the nervous strangeness in some faces is relatable with that on some people listening to Aphex Twin today (still). This reminds me of the first Black Sabbath performances, where people were reportedly freaking out because they had no idea what to make of what they were hearing. Both Sabbath and Kraftwerk were many years, in the case of Kraftwerk even decades, ahead of their time in the sounds and concepts they were putting out there. What a delightfully surreal experience that must have been.

Back when electronic music was almost entirely analogue, we'll never be able to create the same sort of sound with software, it just can't be done. This was an amazing era for computer music :D

Jim Morrison predicted this a few years prior - that music performances would become more and more electronically driven and he even foresaw “a single person” performing in front of a crowd using “tapes and electronic setups” to create live music. Even though this performance is very primitive, so many of the elements that are essential of modern EDM are already there.

My first Kraftwerk album was Radioactivity at 1978, in Budapest then seen them live in Toronto in the 90s. They were excellent.

From this to breakcore and uptempo electronic music has come so far but it’s kinda funny seeing a bunch of hippies enjoying or at least trying to enjoy this 😭

I find it absolutely funny, how young people didn't know they can dance to these strange tunes and they're just clapping hands. Bits of anthropology and microhistory recorded live.

My brain is having trouble processing people in the 70’s listening to techno 😭 this is so goofy I love it.

In 1987 I bought Kraftwerk's vinyl album "The Man-Machine". and I remember at that time I enjoyed bands like Depeche Mode, The Fixx, The Cure etc.. and I felt as if Kraftwerk were just an over simplified version of the bands that I liked. Little did i realize that all those bands had learned from Kraftwerk. and this was almost 40 years ago.

They couldn’t believe that it wasnt ‘new’ music. *I also love the contrast of the bands look from the Man Machine album compared to the Autobahn album. ** I was 9 or 10 when I first heard We Are The Robots.

You can clearly see that some try to jam, some try to simply process what is happening... never hearing stuff like The Prodigy or Nine Inch Nails ever before. I love how the Rolling Stones where only 8 years old at that time.
