First time back in Siargao Philippines since Typhoon Odette! (Reaction and help)

Back in Siargao and seeing first hand the impact of Super Typhoon Odette that struck the island on the 16th of December 2021. There has been tremendous effort by local government and non profits to help the island but we also wanted to give back to this lovely island community that has welcomed us on several occasions in the past. Over the next month I will be covering our mission to do some good in the northern part of Siargao.

I first saw your post when you were in Merida. I am Filipino married to a Mexican, so I watch some of your videos to get some understanding of Mexico. I see you guys do it for fun and perhaps to get by, so it can be entertaining, but now you are talking my cup of tea. Your travel experience may well help understand how interconnected the world is, and that more of this consumerism and vanity is going to wipe out a human civilization older than Europe and America combined. It is so old that its people were confident to delve on most important matters beyond physiological needs. Notice many of us are kind and congenial with others. For many Pilipinos, it takes a ton of energy to go down sub level to be mean and gross because by the time we were discovered we were well aware of the intangible side and greatness of humanity. That was only possible because the Islands had given us richness in sea and land. We could never be hungry or cold. Good luck in your ventures and thank you.

Uff, forferdelig og stakkar folk.😢😢 In Oct and Nov 2020, Cam. Sur was hit by 3 typhoons, one after the other, and nothing was spared from the typhoon’s wrath. Houses were torn into pieces, threatened people's livelihood, and millions worth of infrastructure were damaged. Filipinos are resilient but typhoon devastation and the ongoing pandemic were not a good combination at all. I sent some help to some 150 families in a barrio where I grew up. I wish to help more, wish I could help all. Keep your warm feeling and kindness in helping others. Regards to Ave and your helping team. Take care.

Hi Martin, I feel so sad to see the devastation in the beautiful Siargao. But I am hopeful. Filipinos are resilient and with the help of good people like you Siargao will recover. It’s sad to see the devastation that Typhoon Odette did to Siargao! As always, I believe in the Filipinos’ resilience that by the end of 2022, the physical landscape will improved and development will be in full blast. Your rental home is great for your stay. Our house in Surigao also devastated by the typhoon lucky enough my family is safe !!! I felt very very sad o those people who are having hard times rebuilding their houses. Team marveKim is doing a great job for Siargao - making assessment of the extent of the devastation caused by typhoon Odette and that underway is extending the much needed support and help to the most depressed areas. Hi Martin, happy that you're back vlogging, but seeing how Siargao has been badly devastated feels depressing. What once was a beautiful island, the place looks now in shambles and its also disheartening to see Da Rosa Del Mar in that state. Hope in due time Siargao will be rehabilitated and return to what it was . . . a paradise and haven for tourists.

Glad you're finally visiting Siargao months after the calamity. Honestly I've wondered If you even cared as I didn't see any recognition or mentions of support to the calamity victims which made watcing your vlog kind of difficult. I've seen every other vlogger that had connections with the place donated their time, effort to raise funds and brought much needed help to the victims in Surigao and other islands affected by the typhoon. But as they say "better late than never".
