It's been a long long time... This marks the end of my longest climbing break so far since I started over 14 (?!) years ago with this damn sport. This is how it went.

When you last climbed I was working an 8b+ 30m roof project, and *still* am (it is under snow now). I am 66 but still progressing on my hardest climbing. good to see you back now as family man.

That is fucking insane! When did you start climbing? I just started last April and am shooting for my first indoor v9 and outdoor v8 at 24 years old… hoping I can climb anywhere near as long as you!

@@V8chump 1975. My first 10a was in 1980 (trad of course, no real bouldering and no sport grades back then). 5.11 1984 (onsight trad) 5.12 1990 (trad with bolts redpoint) 13a 1992 rp, 13b 1993, 13c/d 1996. Plateaued since then but spend most of my energy developing/alpine etc. Never been injured...that is a big one. Respect your body and it's limits and you'll go far and long! My channel will have lots of training videos (also for running) in the next year, check it out.

@@ManitheMonkey Yes on both! I now am "CarniCore" which means allowing fruit and maybe some veg, but meat is the center. I feel the fruit a few times a week helps me be a bit sharper for sprinting and climbing, plus the variety is nice. I still eat pure carnivore at least half the week. Getting close to sending my 8b+ FA. It is so beautiful, my dream climb, but conditions are a huge challenge. I will be in the American SW desert for this spring to get in top shape.

Good job on maintaining your weight despite a year off! I used to moderate the climbharder subreddit back when your channel was called VeganRockclimbing and I recall that we'd been climbing about the same number of years and were climbing about the same grades, you ended up getting much stronger lol. Anyway, I too have had a year off of rock climbing due to the birth of my daughter and just now starting to get back into it only I have gained about 13kg in this time off. When I stopped climbing last year I had just done my first 8b+ and bouldering around 7C/7C+, fast forward 1 year and 30lbs and my bouldering is down to 6C and sport down to about 7a lol. I'm sure it will come back relatively quickly, I've had a few long breaks in the past due to injury and it always comes back relatively fast, but it's hard to find time to get to the gym these days with the baby. Anyway, good luck on your return, I'm sure you'll be back to 8c+ or 9a in no time.

Mani!! Welcome back, my dude.🙂 I "quit" climbing due to shoulder issues when I was 25. After a game-changing surgery, I got back into it at 37. Now, I'm 40 and enjoying climbing more than ever. I'm even about the pass up my previous level! Good luck on your journey to climbing for all the right reasons and getting deep satisfaction from this amazing sport.

That’s awesome! Where were you when you were 25 and where are you at now? It’s so cool that climbing is accessible even late into life, I’ve met a group of 80+ year old guys top roping at my gym and they were killing it! None of them looked a day over 60!

@@V8chump Just V5 (outdoor). Now I'm at V3/V4. However, continuing with my weight loss alone will bump me up 1-2 grades. I would probably be much further physically except that I was too impatient to improve and kept getting overuse injuries (always was prone to this type of thing). I'm on a 6-month streak now without injury (thanks to a redoubling of my resolve to listen to my body). My strength is increasing steadily and my technique is much more refined than it ever was when I sent V5.
@V8chump
@V8chump Жыл бұрын
@@adamhaas141 nice! Form becomes so second nature at some point movement almost becomes automatic. Mid summer 2022 I avoided steep walls because I didn’t know proper form, now I’ve climbed 4 V8s on the most overhung wall in my gym (video on my channel) 😁 only been climbing since April but I make sure to keep training to a proper intensity and not to overdo it… you don’t get stronger in the gym, you get stronger from going to the gym then sitting around relaxing and eating right. If you can’t heal you can’t get stronger, therefore recovery is the most important factor when it comes to getting strong fast and staying healthy
@adamhaas141

@Hopesfallout
@Hopesfallout Жыл бұрын
@@rykes9783 It happened during climbing but it probably only partially was caused by it. I had trained my biceps for years before I started climbing, which caused the bicep tendons to become relatively stiff and less efficient at taking the extreme stress from bouldering. I developed tendonitis, trained through it and eventually tore a tendon.

Napoleonica sector, is still popular and defenetly the most polished sector in Trieste, cloudy days are the best because polished rock becomes more grippy. Above and below the Napoleonica street, sectors have less polished rock but you can't reach'em with a child. By the way the area above where the church is it's called Monte Grisa.
